AZUSA, Calif. — UC San Diego track and field delivered a strong weekend across three Southern California meets, competing at the Bryan Clay Invitational, Mt. SAC Relays, and Beach Invitational. The Tritons showcased depth and progression throughout the roster, highlighted by three school records, multiple top-10 all-time marks, and a wave of new Big West qualifiers.
UC San Diego athletes made their strongest impact at the Bryan Clay Invitational, where record-breaking efforts and top-tier marks defined the weekend. Across all meets, the Tritons added six new Big West qualifiers and saw 11 athletes etch their names into the program's historical rankings.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tritons were led by a trio of record-setting performances, all coming at the Bryan Clay Invitational.
Allyson Abandonato delivered a historic run in the women's 800 meters, clocking 2:06.00 to break a 12-year-old school record by nearly three seconds.
Sylvana Northrop continued her standout season with two record-breaking performances of her own. She set a new program mark in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:20.07 before returning to shatter the 5,000-meter record in 15:45.18, solidifying her place among the top distance runners in school history.
Beyond the record book, UC San Diego athletes made significant strides across multiple events.
Jaden Rucker turned in one of the most notable field performances of the weekend, recording a mark of 7.52 meters in the long jump at the Bryan Clay Invitational, good for No. 2 all-time in program history.
On the track,
Evan Gardner posted a strong showing in the men's 800 meters, running 1:50.48 to move into fourth all-time.
Andre Jones added depth in the long jump, recording a leap of 7.20 meters to rank fifth in program history.
The Tritons also saw success at the Beach Invitational, where
Antonia Hekster recorded a mark of 51.62 meters in the hammer throw, moving into fifth in program history and adding another top-five all-time performance to the weekend tally.
In total, 11 UC San Diego athletes recorded marks that now rank among the program's top 10, underscoring the team's depth and momentum as the outdoor season progresses. The Tritons also added six new Big West qualifying marks across the three meets.
