Hawai'i Hands UC San Diego First Big West Loss

LA JOLLA, Calif. — UC San Diego was edged out by the University of Hawaii with a close 3-4 finish on Saturday at the Northview Tennis Courts. This match was the first Big West conference match for both teams. The Tritons secured singles victories at the No. 1, No. 3, and No. 6 positions but could not clinch the doubles point.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
UC San Diego dropped the doubles point to the opponent after falling in both completed matches. Alisa Lansky and Allison Lian were defeated 6-2 at No. 1, while Olivia Allegre and Julia Visaya concluded their match at No. 2, 6-2. The No. 3 match, Hana Gamracy and Kamya Nair, was unfinished with the Tritons leading 5-2.
 
In singles, the Tritons secured victories on three courts. At No. 1, Allegre delivered a 6-3, 6-2 win. Lansky also contributed with a straight-set win, posting a 6-4, 6-2 score at No. 3. Visaya wrapped up a tight contest at No. 6 singles with a 7-5, 6-4 victory.
 
Carling Allaye-Chan's match at No. 2 was a battle, going to three sets and ending 0-6, 6-3, 5-7. Lian faced a straight-set defeat at No. 5 singles, finishing 2-6, 4-6. Gamracy put up a strong fight at No. 4 singles, taking the first set 7-6(2) before falling 3-6, 2-6 in the subsequent sets.

  • Carling Allaye-Chan re-entered the Tritons lineup at No. 2 doubles for the first time in four matches.

UP NEXT
The Tritons face their next Big West foe at Long Beach State Friday, Feb. 20. The match is set to begin at 12 p.m. at Rhodes Tennis Center.
