First Loss of the Season Comes at Arizona State

TEMPE, Ariz. - The No. 13 UC San Diego women's water polo team lost for the first time time season Sunday, falling at No. 11 Arizona State by a 15-12 count.

The Tritons are now 4-1 on the season.

The game was part of ASU's Malmsten Invitational at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center in Tempe, Ariz.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UC San Diego scored the first two goals of the game. The opener came from Evelyn Burns on a five meter penalty shot  at the 7:36 mark of the opening quarter. Abigail made it 2-0 UC San Diego at 5:16. The Tritons upped their advantage and led by a 5-3 edge following the first quarter. 

Both teams scored four goals in the second stanza, making it 9-7 Tritons heading into halftime.

Arizona State rallied to outscore UC San Diego 8-3 in the second half.

A goal from Sun Devil Dominika Kardos with 41 ticks remaining in the third tied it at 11-11.

In the final stanza, Arizona State's Millie Quin scored on a power play at 6:43, giving the Sun Devils a 12-11 lead. That goal would stand as the game-winner.
