Tritons Finish First Indoor Meet of 2026

RENO, Nev. — UC San Diego track and field traveled to Reno this weekend for the program's first indoor meet of the new season. The Nevada Invitational was contested at the Reno Sparks Convention Center on Friday and Saturday.

Makena Bailey won the high jump event, setting a new program record in the process. A program record was also set by Keani Neuhs in the 800m, with the freshman also making her collegiate debut.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Bailey was one of two athletes to clear 1.72m in the high jump, which the Triton did on her first attempt. The bar then rose to 1.75m, with Bailey successful on her third jump. That won her the event and cleared the school record, which was previously at 1.71m.

Neuhs finished 10th in the 800m with a time of 2:18.39. Also making her collegiate debut in that race was Jayla Addison, who was 13th and is now second all-time on the school leaderboard with a time of 2:21.11.

Miles Bennett finished second in the high jump event after a jump off. His final mark was 2.09m, just shy of his program-record 2.10m that he set last season.

Three other Tritons are now second on the school's all-time performance list. Chinanu Agunanne set a mark of 12.05m in the triple jump, while Zach Lewis clocked in at 16.79m in shot put. Gabriella Lopez is also second all-time in the shot put with a toss of 10.68m and reached the same spot in the weight throw at 14.19m.

TRITON TIDBITS UP NEXT
The Tritons will travel to Spokane, Washington, for the Riverfront Multis. That event will be Feb. 5-7.
