LA JOLLA, Calif. – The UC San Diego women's tennis team begins spring play Wednesday morning at nearby USD. The Tritons then continue their annual tradition of spending the first weekend of spring season with a trio of matches in Arizona. For the fourth consecutive season, the Tritons will face Arizona and Grand Canyon on opening weekend, capping play Sunday by facing DePaul.

MAKING THE GRADE
The Tritons have continued to excel in the classroom. UC San Diego posted a 3.65 team grade point average during fall quarter – higher than any other Triton program. Senior Hana Gamracy and junior Varsha Jawadi both posted a perfect 4.0 GPA.

ROSTER BREAKDOWN
This year's Tritons are composed one grad student, one senior, one junior, two sophomores and three freshmen. UC San Diego graduated seven from last year's squad.
 
MEET THE NEWCOMERS
UC San Diego women's tennis head coach Sebastian Bader announced the addition of five newcomers who will join the Tritons' roster for the 2025-26 season. Graduate student Hana Gamracy joins the Tritons after her undergrad career at USF and Julia Visaya comes to La Jolla from Oregon. First-year Tritons include Carling Allaye-Chan, Olivia Allegre, and Alisa Lansky.
 
YEAR THREE FOR COACH BADER
Sebastian Bader was named the fourth head coach in UC San Diego women's tennis history and is now in his third season. His appointment comes following the retirement of Liz LaPlante, who won 607 dual matches and four Division III national titles over 44 seasons as head coach. Bader served as an assistant under LaPlante for two seasons.
 
ATTENDING UC SAN DIEGO HOME MATCHES
Attending Triton tennis matches at Northview Tennis Courts is free, but note that parking permits are required seven days per week at UC San Diego.
 
UC SAN DIEGO TO THE WEST COAST CONFERENCE
On September 3, UC San Diego announced that it has accepted an invitation to join the West Coast Conference beginning in 2027-28. Triton women's tennis will meet a trio of WCC foes this season: at USD (Jan. 14), at Santa Clara (March 24), and at LMU (April 5).
 
WHY THE TRITONS?
The Triton is described as the offspring of Poseidon and Amphitrite, a demigod of the sea with a lower part of the body like that of a fish. It is known as a mighty and fierce sea warrior. Given UC San Diego's close proximity to the Pacific Ocean and its connections with the world-famous Scripps Institution of Oceanography, the Triton became our mascot in 1964.
