IRVINE, Calif. — The Big West recognized UC San Diego's
Sylvana Northrop today as the Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week. The award is voted on by the conference's head coaches.
Northrop was the Triton's top finisher at last weekend's Texas A&M Invitational, finishing fourth after running the 5k in 17:08.4. The Triton women finished third in a race that had 14 teams, including four Power Five schools.
The redshirt senior has led the Tritons in both races this season. She was also the top finisher on the women's team in every race last year. At the 2024 Big West Cross Country Championships, Northrop finished sixth to earn All-Conference honors.
Northrop is a native of Cupertino, California. She is majoring in cognitive science at Muir College.
Up next for Northrop and the Tritons is the Cowboy Jamboree, hosted by Oklahoma State on Sept. 26. Part of the squad will spend that weekend at the UC Riverside Invitational on Sept. 27.
