STILLWATER, Oklahoma — Triton cross country kicked off the weekend against a strong field at Oklahoma State's Cowboy Jamboree on Friday morning. The races saw the women's team finish seventh and the men's team finish 11th.

Sylvana Northrop was the Tritons' top finisher in the women's 6k, placing 25th with a time of 21:19.5.
Nathan Garderes led the team in the men's 8k, running 25:00.6 to finish 46th.

HOW IT HAPPENED — WOMEN'S RACE
The women's race featured 19 teams, including three nationally-ranked programs in No. 1 BYU, No. 3 New Mexico and No. 13 Oklahoma State.

The Tritons largely stayed together and moved through the large field, with each runner finishing higher than they were at the halfway point.
Christel Elkins was the squad's second runner across the line behind Northrop. The two seniors finished within six seconds of each other.

Dasha LeFaivre was next for the Tritons with a time of 22:03.1. The rest of the team's top seven came shortly after, with
Allyson Abandonato,
Norah Dulaney,
Emma Dunmire and
Shea Elmore all finishing in under 23 minutes. Freshman
Sabrina Zanetto rounded out the Triton contingent with a 23:08.5.

HOW IT HAPPENED – MEN'S RACE
The men's contest was equally competitive, featuring four ranked teams in No. 2 New Mexico, No. 3 Oklahoma State, No. 10 Oregon and No. 29 Tulsa.

Garderes turned in a strong final kilometer to be the top Triton finisher. He was followed by
Evan Hild, who ran 25:18.2.
Charlie Frank and
Tate Meaux were next for the Tritons with a two second gap separating the two.

The Triton men did well to run as a group for most of the race. Seven runners were within 12 seconds of each other at the 7k mark.
Nathaniel Griffin-Yeh,
Joseph Vargas and
Shane Badcock ultimately rounded out the team's top seven, followed closely by
Jeffrey Keeney.
