Four Tritons Named USTFCCCA All-Academic Athletes

Both Triton track and field programs also earn All-Academic Team recognition

NEW ORLEANS — The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has announced the teams and individuals earning All-Academic honors for the 2025 collegiate track and field seasons.

The Triton men's program and the Triton women's program were both named All-Academic Teams. Tamara Aimufia, Miles Bennett, Amari Jenkins and Sylvana Northrop were recognized as All-Academic Athletes.

In order to be named an All-Academic Team, a program's combined cumulative GPA must be 3.0 or higher. The Triton women have a combined GPA of 3.47, while the Triton men check in at 3.40.

In order to be named an All-Academic Athlete, scholar-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher and complete one full year at their institution. In addition, scholar-athletes are only eligible for the award if they qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Aimufia qualified for the NCAA Championships in the long jump with a distance of 6.14m. A native of Rancho Cucamonga, California, Aimufia is a sophomore studying cognitive science.

Bennett qualified for the NCAA Championships in the high jump with a height of 2.11m. A native of Castro Valley, California, Bennett recently graduated from UC San Diego with a degree in structural engineering.

Jenkins qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 400m hurdles with a time of 58.21. A native of Moreno Valley, California, Jenkins is a graduate student studying public health.

Northrop qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 5,000m with a time of 16:02.47. A native of Cupertino, California, Northrop is a senior studying cognitive science.

After two decades as one of the most successful programs in NCAA Division II, the UC San Diego intercollegiate athletics program began a new era in 2020 as a member of The Big West in NCAA Division I. The 24-sport Tritons earned 30 team and nearly 150 individual national championships during its time in Divisions II and III and helped guide 1,400 scholar-athletes to All-America honors. A total of 83 Tritons have earned Academic All-America honors, while 39 have earned prestigious NCAA Post Graduate Scholarships. UC San Diego scholar-athletes exemplify the academic ideals of one of the world's preeminent institutions, graduating at an average rate of 93 percent, one of the highest rates among institutions at all divisions.
