LA JOLLA, Calif. -Â A twosome of UC San Diego men's golf players have been honored by the Big West as the conference released its annual postseason awards Monday.
Nathan Tseng garnered All-Big West Second Team accolades, while
Kyle Dougherty was tabbed Honorable Mention.
Tseng, a junior, posted a pair of top-five finishes over the 2024-25 season.
At the El Macero Classic, hosted by UC Davis in April, Tseng placed third in the 92-player field. Not only was it Tseng's career-best finish, his performance over three rounds led UC San Diego to its first tournament win as an NCAA Division I program.Â
Earlier in the season, Tseng swung to a fourth-place finish among 80 players at Fresno State's Nick Watney Invitational.
"Nathan has been a tremendous leader both on and off the course," said UC San Diego head coach
Fred Hanover. "He is so professional in his approach to the game and he is more than deserving of this honor. His performance led us to our win at UC Davis, which was a tremendous achievement for this team. I know that he will continue to improve and will be a great leader next season."
Dougherty, a senior, placed in the top-35 in six events over the season while finishing among the top-10 twice.
Along with Tseng, Dougherty played a big role in UC San Diego winning its first tournament, taking fifth at the El Macero Classic.
In addition, he was sixth at the Falcon Invitational, which featured a 110-player field.
Most recently, Dougherty was the top Triton finisher at the Big West Championship, taking 15th in the 72-player contingent.
"Kyle is one of the most talented golfers who has ever played for UC San Diego," said Hanover. "He made a big jump this year after being out most of last season due to knee surgery. He had a pair of top-10 finishes, one of which was crucial in helping us win at UC Davis. His Honorable Mention award is well-deserved."
Dougherty and Tseng become the second and third Tritons to garner All-Big West honors.
Davis McDowell was named to the First Team in 2023, the Second Team in 2024, and Honorable Mention in 2022.
The 2025 season was the first that UC San Diego was eligible for postseason play as the athletics program recently completed its four-year transition to full NCAA Division I status. Â
