AIEA, Hawai'i - The UC San Diego men's golf team closed out its 2025 fall season Thursday with yet another impressive result as
Nathan Tseng's first collegiate victory led the Tritons to a second place finish at the Pearl at Kalauao Invitational in Hawai'i.
The 18-team event was hosted by the University of Hawai'i at Pearl at Kalauao in Aiea on the island of Oahu. It was the inaugural running of the tournament.
UC San Diego, 97th in the most recent national rankings, finished 10-under par on the par-72, 6,955-yard course. The Tritons were 11 strokes behind 32nd-ranked West Virginia, which finished 21-under to take the win. Augusta (-7) finished third and Hawai'i placed fourth (-4). The top four teams were the only squads to finish under par.
Tseng's play was super consistent over the 54 holes as he shot in the 60's in each round. He went 69-69-68, finishing with a 206, 10-under par. He clipped Army's Tyson Sparks by a single stroke. Augusta's Stefan Jacobs and West Virginia's Kaleb Wilson tied for third at 8-under.
Eight Tritons played in the tournament, five on the team and three others competing as individuals. As team players,
Davis McDowell and
Francis Catalano finished among the top-30 at 26th and 29th, respectively.
The first two rounds were scheduled for Wednesday. However, darkness forced the suspension of the second frame, which was concluded Thursday and followed by the final round.
UC San Diego finished in the top five in all four of its fall tournaments. Tseng's victory was the second by a Triton this season as McDowell placed first at Colorado State's Ram Masters in early September.
