LA JOLLA, Calif. - Three UC San Diego men's volleyball players have earned All-America distinction from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) as the organization released its annual honorees Monday.
Senior opposite hitter Anthony Cherfan was selected to the AVCA All-America Second Team, while grad student setter Bryce Dvorak and junior outside hitter Josh Schellinger garnered Honorable Mention accolades.
"The national recognition for these three athletes is very well deserved," said UC San Diego head men's volleyball coach Brad Rostratter. "Their impact and presence within our program was felt across the nation with our performance throughout the season. We are grateful for the respect these great players have earned through all they have done for our university, coaching staff, and teammates."
Cherfan was the Tritons' leader in points, kills, and attack percentage. He ranked second in service aces, third in blocks, and fifth in digs. Among Big West players in conference matches, Cherfan ranked third in kills per set and seventh in aces per set. He registered a double-figure kill total in 17 matches, which included a career-high 27 against Loyola Chicago.
Cherfan has won several other awards this season including All-Big West First Team, Big West Offensive Player of the Week and Big West Defensive Player of the Week. He was also a member of the 2025 Big West Preseason Coaches' Poll. In 2024, the Los Angeles native was an All-Big West First Team performer and an AVCA All-America Honorable Mention selection in 2024 as well.
"Anthony's growth and progression as a player has been fantastic over the past two years," said Rostratter. "He found more offensive consistency and has maintained high level volleyball throughout the season."
Dvorak arrived at UC San Diego this season after playing for Pepperdine. As the Tritons' primary setter, he led the Big West in total assists and assists per set. He has racked up 1,157 helpers to pace the team to its .309 attack percentage. Dvorak assisted on a season-high 65 kills against CSUN in early April. He also finished eighth in the conference in aces. In his second-ever match as a Triton in January, he put down seven aces against Saint Francis to establish a new UC San Diego program record.
Dvorak was selected to the All-Big West First Team in 2025 and picked up a Big West Setter of the Week award in April.
"An immediate impact on and off the court came with Bryce's arrival," said Rostratter. "It has shown with his serving, setting, and overall volleyball skillset."
Schellinger also had a stellar season. Most recently, he dropped a career-high 22 kills against UC Santa Barbara in a Big West Championship quarterfinal. He also established career-best numbers in points, assists, aces, digs, and attack percentage over the season. Schellinger had 17 matches with at least 10 kills. In Big West matches, he ranked seventh in kills per set and eighth in attack percentage.
Schellinger was named All-Big West Honorable Mention for his efforts this season.
"As a server, passer, and attacker Josh has consistently been doing more and more of what is needed to perform at a high level," said Rostratter. "His development is a testament to his energetic work ethic that he brings to everything he does."
In 2025, UC San Diego compiled a 18-12 record and a No. 10 national ranking. The team won its first six matches of the year, five of those coming in straight sets. UC San Diego defeated two teams ranked in the national top-10 including No. 4 UC Irvine and No. 8 Stanford. The Tritons earned the fourth seed for the Big West Championship and defeated fifth-seeded UC Santa Barbara in the quarterfinal round before falling to Long Beach State, the top-ranked team in the country, in a semifinal.
