Tritons Finish Fifth at CAA Championship

Three Honored with All-CAA Awards

PENNSAUKEN, N.J. — UC San Diego women's rowing advanced all three boats to the grand finals on Saturday, where the Tritons combined to place fifth at the CAA Championship on the Cooper River in New Jersey. The varsity eight and varsity four boats both finished fifth in their respective races, while the second varsity eight crew took fourth.
 
At the conclusion of the event, the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA), announced the All-CAA Team. The Tritons had three scholar-athletes recognized: Laine Bradley, Rachel Cuneo and Natasha Vallancey. All three raced in the varsity eight boat.

"I was impressed with the level of competition in the CAA this year," head coach Colin Truex said. "Several teams showed significant improvement from last year, which is a great thing for our conference. Unfortunately we came up a little short of our goals, but the team did their best and I am proud of them."

After two decades as one of the most successful programs in NCAA Division II, the UC San Diego intercollegiate athletics program began a new era in 2020 as a member of The Big West Conference in NCAA Division I. The 23-sport Tritons earned 30 team and nearly 150 individual national championships during its time in Divisions II and III and helped guide 1,400 scholar-athletes to All-America honors. A total of 84 Tritons have earned Academic All-America honors, while 38 have earned prestigious NCAA Post Graduate Scholarships. UC San Diego scholar-athletes exemplify the academic ideals of one of the world's preeminent institutions, graduating at an average rate of 91 percent, one of the highest rates among institutions at all divisions.
