IRVINE, Calif. – A pair of UC San Diego scholar-athletes have been honored by The Big West as the conference announced its women's tennis postseason awards on Thursday afternoon. Graduate student
Julia Haynes was named to the All-Big West First Team and Haynes paired with senior
Kelly Leung to garner All-Big West Second Team recognition for their play in doubles.
After completing the most dominant single season in UC San Diego's brief Division I history,
Julia Haynes becomes the first Triton to earn All-Big West First Team accolades. She went 29-6 in her lone year at UC San Diego – including a 16-3 record this spring. Haynes was 7-2 against Big West foes.
Kelly Leung earns her first Big West postseason nod, recognized alongside Haynes on the All-Big West Second Team for their doubles play. The tandem was paired together during the latter half of conference play, winning all three of their Big West matches together at No. 1 doubles.
As a team, the Tritons had a banner year in their first Division I season with postseason eligibility. UC San Diego established new Division I program bests for wins (11), Big West wins (five), and home winning percentage (.778).
