Kendall Thomas is the Big West Water Polo Player of the Week

LA JOLLA, Calif. — Kendall Thomas of the ninth-ranked UC San Diego women's water polo team was named the Big West Player of the Week Wednesday.

A senior center, Thomas was instrumental in two UC San Diego victories this past week.

Saturday, she helped lead the Tritons to their ninth consecutive Harper Cup victory against San Diego State. She scored four goals on six shots and added two drawn exclusions and a steal in the 18-16 win. For the third straight season, Thomas was honored as the Carin Crawford Most Valuable Player of the game.

The day prior, Thomas totaled four points on three goals and an assist as UC San Diego downed Big West rival UC Santa Barbara, 13-11, in the Tritons' final regular season game. In that win, Thomas also contributed three drawn exclusions and a steal.

It's Big West Championship time. Fourth-seeded UC San Diego takes on fifth-seeded UC Davis in a quarterfinal game on Friday, April 25 at UC Irvine (12 p.m.). The winner will face the winner of the No. 1 Hawai'i/No. 8 Cal State Fullerton quarterfinal in a semifinal on Saturday (12 p.m.). The title game is set for Sunday at noon with the victor earning the Big West's automatic bid into the NCAA National Collegiate Championship. The semifinal and final rounds will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
