Seniors Shine on their Day as Tritons Defeat Brown

LA JOLLA, Calif. - The senior class shined on Senior Day, leading the No. 15 UC San Diego women's water polo team to a 21-16 win against No. 23 Brown Saturday at Canyonview Aquatic Center.

With the victory in its last regular season home contest, the Tritons are now 10-11. Brown, which played four games during its West Coast swing, dropped to 13-10.

All in all, the three UC San Diego seniors combined for an impressive 18 points with 10 goals and eight assists. Sydney Munatones racked up a career high eight points with three goals and five assists, which matched her career best for helpers as well. The Huntington Beach native also drew four exclusions. Allie Bartholomew followed with a career high six points from three goals and three assists. Her goal total was also a career high. Sofia Munatones, twin sister to Sydney, had four goals, one short of her high mark for a single game.

Triton freshman Alexa Kraaijvanger corralled a career best four points with a goal and three assists.

Bria Zwaschka made 10 saves and had two steals in goal for UC San Diego.

Tied 3-3 at the 3:39 mark of the opening quarter, the Tritons scored the game's next four goals and stayed in front for the rest of the game. 

The Bears got back within a single goal twice. The final time came at 1:22 of the third period when Alex Love scored to make it 15-14 Tritons. UC San Diego shut that down by scoring the game's next four goals to put it up 19-14 with 5:49 on the clock.

Love scored five goals and added an assist for Brown. Ava Schoening had four goals and a pair of assists.

UC San Diego is 7-0 against Brown since 2007.
UP NEXT
UC San Diego plays two more games, both on the road, prior to the Big West Championship. On April 2, the Tritons play the annual Harper Cup game, this year at San Diego State. They close out the regular season at Big West opponent UC Santa Barbara on April 4. The Big West Championship is slated for April 10-12 at Long Beach State. UC San Diego will host the 2026 NCAA Women's Water Polo Championship April 22-26 at Canyonview Aquatic Center.
