Catalano and Dougherty Lead Field, Tritons in Second with One Round Remaining

EL MACERO, Calif. - Francis Catalano and Kyle Dougherty are tied for the lead and the UC San Diego Golf Team sits in second place following Saturday's second round of the El Macero Classic. 

UC Davis is hosting the 54-hole tournament at El Macero Country Club.

The Tritons dropped a spot as they entered Saturday with sole possession of first place following Friday's opening round. The team is four-under par overall after shooting three-over today.

Catalano and Dougherty both shot an even-par 72 Saturday to retain their top positions on the leader board. Both Tritons are four-under for the tournament along with four other players.

UC San Diego is five strokes behind Saint Mary's, which shot four-under today and is nine-under through 36 holes. Pacific and the University of San Diego are tied for third at three-under.

There are 17 teams and 92 players in the tourney.

TRITON TIDBITS
• This is the fourth-straight season that UC San Diego has played this tournament.
• There are five Big West teams competing: Cal State Fullerton, CSUN, Sacramento State, UC Davis, and UC San Diego.
• The Tritons placed ninth of 18 teams at the El Macero Classic in 2024. Davis McDowell finished sixth of 104 players.
UP NEXT
The third and final round of the El Macero Classic is set for Sunday, April 12. Groups will begin teeing off at 8:30 a.m.

This is the final regular season tournament for UC San Diego.

The 2025 Big West Men's Golf Championship is scheduled for April 27-29 at La Quinta Country Club in La Quinta, Calif. It will be the first time the Tritons take part as they are now eligible for postseason action after completing their four-year transition to NCAA Division I.
