FULLERTON, Calif. — The UC San Diego track and field team picked up seven wins and set four schools records across the two-day Ben Brown Invite, hosted by Cal State Fullerton Friday-Saturday.

The Tritons also set a combined 47 personal bests and had 44 results that meet the qualification standard for The Big West Championships. UC San Diego is eligible for the postseason, with this year's Big West Championships scheduled for May 16-18 in Long Beach, California.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Friday
The meet got off to a bang on Friday as the Tritons won both 3000m steeplechase events.
Charlie Frank (9:28.95) and
Tate Meaux (9:29.67) finished first and second in the men's event, followed by
Kelsie Yamano winning the women's event. Yamano's 10:42.30 is both a school and meet record.

Friday's success continued in the women's 5000m as
Sylvana Northrop (16:34.78) and
Christel Elkins (16:49.84) both shattered the previous school record of 16:57.30.

Kyle Wood notched a win in the field side of the meet in men's javelin. His mark of 208'9" is a new personal best.

Saturday
The Tritons continued their success on day two, winning four events and setting two more school records. The men's 4x100 relay team of
Brycen Tablit,
Anthony Flowers,
Kian Maher and
Brandon Orlow kicked off Saturday's action with a time of 40.57 to win the event and best the previous school record that was set back in 2018 (40.73).

The other school record that fell on Saturday came in the men's 200m by .11 seconds.
Anthony Flowers became the first Triton to run sub-21 seconds in the event with his time of 20.99.

Three more event wins also came the Tritons way before the close of the competition. Two came on the field as
Miles Bennett won the men's high jump with a mark of 6'11" and
Feyi Olukanni won the women's shot put after throwing 47'7 ¾".

As usual, the 4x400 relay marked the end of the weekend. The Tritons went out on a high note as the women's team of
Lauren Schiele,
Rachel Aguilar,
Amari Jenkins,
Jordyn Thomas and
Idara Ibekwe won the event with a time of 3:43.30. Their time beat the previous meet record (3:44.60) that had stood since 2009.
