LONG BEACH, Calif. — UC San Diego closed out day one of the Big West Championships with the women in third place overall and the men sitting fifth as the Tritons delivered five podium finishes and advanced 13 athletes to tomorrow's finals at Jack Rose Track.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UC San Diego earned a pair of runner-up finishes in the field events as Jaden Rucker placed second in the long jump and Feyi Olukanni secured second in the shot put. Emma Dunmire added another silver-medal performance on the track, finishing second in the steeplechase.
The Tritons also picked up two third-place finishes with Miles Bennett taking bronze in the high jump and Cesar Salazar earning third in the shot put.
On the track, UC San Diego saw 13 athletes qualify through preliminary rounds to advance to championship finals on the final day of competition.
