LA JOLLA, Calif. - Round two of the Fifth Annual UC San Diego Invitational wrapped up Monday on the renowned South Course at Torrey Pines.
The Tritons are sitting in a tie for 13th among the 20 team field, 43 over par after shooting a 306 in Sunday's opening round and a 313 today.
UC San Diego's top individual heading into Tuesday's third and final round is
Justin Gill, tied for 23rd in the 111 player field.
Sacramento State (+17) leads the tournament with rounds of 303 and 290. Arkansas State (+22) is second (+22) and Utah State (+23)Â is third.
The lone player under par is Thomas Schmidt of Arkansas State. He fired rounds of 71 and 68 on the par 72, 7,802 yard course layout.
The 20-team lineup is the largest in the event's history. Two teams in the field are ranked in the national top 100 including New Mexico State (64) and Arkansas State (88). Five Big West squads are in contention including CSUN, Sacramento State, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, and UC San Diego.
Tuesday's third round tees off at 7 a.m. with a shotgun start. The weather is calling for a high of 69 with some morning fog, a 16 percent of showers, and a WNW wind around nine miles per hour.Â

About UC San Diego Athletics
After two decades as one of the most successful programs in NCAA Division II, the UC San Diego intercollegiate athletics program began a new era in 2020 as a member of the Big West Conference in NCAA Division I. The 23-sport Tritons earned 30 team and nearly 150 individual national championships during its time in Divisions III and II and helped guide 1,400 scholar-athletes to All-America honors.
