RIVERSIDE, Calif. — UC San Diego's outdoor track and field season got off to a strong start Friday at the Riverside City College Invitational. The Tritons finished the meet with the most team points on the women's side and the second-most on the men's side.
Four runners picked up wins on the track for the Tritons.
Sylvana Northrop won the 3000m with a time of 9:24.62, breaking the school record by over 10 seconds in the process. The previous mark had stood since 2000.Â
Brycen Tablit won the 100m in 10.61,
Charis Wondercheck won the 100m hurdles in 14.48 and
Camille Lindsay took home the 800m title with a time of 2:14.69.
The field competition brought three more wins in pole vault, long jump and hammer.
Chance Rynearson jumped 15'7 in his pole vault victory, and
Jaden Rucker claimed long jump with a final mark of 23'10 ¼.
Bryan Chang tossed 173'7 to win the hammer throw.
The Tritons finished the meet with eight performances that are top five in program history and 13 that are top 10. That includes
Cesar Salazar (56'5 ¼) and
Zach Lewis (54'10 ¾), who now have the program's second and four-best marks in shot put.
A total of 69 athletes participated for the Tritons, and 21 made their NCAA track and field debuts.
