Two Tritons Earn Academic All-District Honors

McNees and Saran recognized for their work in the classroom and on the court

LA JOLLA, Calif.—UC San Diego women's volleyball had two Tritons named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team, as announced Tuesday by the organization. Ireland McNees and Jasmine Saran were recognized for their achievements in the classroom and on the court.
 
It is the first Academic All-District honor for McNees and third for Saran, who earned the same recognition as a junior (2024) and sophomore (2023). 
 
The Tritons have now earned nine Academic All-District honors in the Division I era and 22 awardees all-time. Additionally, UC San Diego has had seven Academic All-Americans in program history.
 
IRELAND McNEES » INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS
Ireland McNees is a junior transfer, majoring in international business with a 3.75 grade point average at Sixth College. 
 
McNees was named to the Fall SEC Academic Honor Roll (2024) as a sophomore and Big 12 Academic Rookie Team (2023) as a freshman.
 
The Tritons' outside hitter ranked second on the team in kills (282) and digs (267), third in blocks (42.0) and fourth in aces (19). She ranked 17th in the Big West in kills (2.59 per set) and points (3.01 per set) and 19th in digs (2.45 per set).
 
JASMINE SARAN » GENERAL BIOLOGY
Jasmine Saran is a senior, majoring in general biology with a 3.96 grade point average at Muir College. She plans to pursue medical school after graduating to become a physician.
 
A three-time Academic All-District honoree, Saran has earned the distinction in every year she was eligible. She has earned Highest Honors on the Big West Commissioner's Honor Roll three times and named to the Fall Big West All-Academic Team twice—with 2025's team yet to be announced.
 
The senior middle blocker led the team in total blocks (85.0), ranking 16th in the Big West in blocks per set (0.88). Saran also finished 15th in the conference with a .269 hitting percentage and ranked fourth on the team in total kills (202).
 
The 2025 Academic All-District Women's Volleyball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes volleyball honorees in four divisions—NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
 
To be eligible, student-athletes must hold a 3.50 cumulative grade point average, must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically and participated in 90 percent of sets played or 66 percent of matches started.

After two decades as one of the most successful programs in NCAA Division II, the UC San Diego intercollegiate athletics program began a new era in 2020 as a member of The Big West in NCAA Division I. The 23-sport Tritons earned 30 team and nearly 150 individual national championships during its time in Divisions II and III and helped guide 1,400 scholar-athletes to All-America honors. A total of 84 Tritons have earned Academic All-America honors, while 38 have earned prestigious NCAA Post Graduate Scholarships. UC San Diego scholar-athletes exemplify the academic ideals of one of the world's preeminent institutions, graduating at an average rate of 91 percent, one of the highest rates among institutions at all divisions.
