LA JOLLA, Calif. – UC San Diego men's soccer plays two matches this week beginning on the road at San Jose State on Thursday, Sep. 12 and will then be back home on Sunday, Sep. 15 to host Air Force.

San Jose State (1-2-1) enters the week coming off a 1-0 loss to Cal Poly, the third member of the Big West the Spartans have played. SJSU opened the season against then No. 5 Stanford falling in a hard 2-1 decision. They went on to tie with CSU Bakersfield (1-1) and defeated Sacramento State (2-1). Diogo Baptista leads the Spartans with two goals and four points.

Facing two top 25 teams so far this season, Air Force (0-4-1), like the Tritons, is still in the hunt for their first victory. Then No. 10 SMU felled the Falcons in a 1-0 result after a physical match with 12 yellow cards dealt between the teams. On Sunday, No. 4 Western Michigan hosted AF in Kalamazoo, defeating the Falcons 5-1. Four Falcons have scored a goal so far this season with Nick Bisagno leading the way at three points on a goal and an assist.

UC San Diego (0-4-1) enters the week after a heartbreaker against University of San Diego on Sep. 8 when the Tritons fell in a 2-1 decision. The gold and blue are still hunting for their first victory of the season as they are led by
Andrew Valverde who has scored two goals so far this season.
Max Carvalho adds his help with a goal and an assist and newcomer
Kai Oppenheim has tallied two assists over five games.
Michael Luechauer, another Triton newcomer, made his collegiate debut on Sunday night.

About UC San Diego Athletics
After two decades as one of the most successful programs in NCAA Division II, the UC San Diego intercollegiate athletics program began a new era in 2020 as a member of The Big West in NCAA Division I.
