LA JOLLA, Calif.—UC San Diego women's volleyball head coach Melanie Greene has announced the addition of Kara Barkdoll Coy as Assistant Coach for the 2024 season.
Â
Coy joins the Tritons after serving as business operations coordinator for Cal State San Marcos from March 2023 to June 2024. Prior to her arrival at CSUSM, Coy served as San Diego State's volleyball operations assistant from 2018 to 2023.
Â
"It's an honor to welcome Kara Barkdoll Coy to the Triton Family," said Greene. "I am extremely familiar and comfortable with Kara from our previous coaching experience together at San Diego State. Her confidence and knowledge of the game, along with her business experience, will be invaluable to myself, my staff, and the team. More importantly, her ability to motivate and connect with the players will help serve us as we set out to develop a championship culture. I am thrilled to have Kara onboard, and I know she's ready to hit the ground running!"
Â
Coy also spent two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at Concordia University Irvine, where she served as the team's video technician while assisting with practice plans, drills, scouting and budget management.
Â
In addition, Coy gained valuable experience at the club level, including a two-year stint with the 951 Elite Volleyball Club in Wildomar, Calif. She was also involved as an assistant coach with the Laguna Beach Volleyball Club and spent four seasons with WAVE Volleyball Club in Del Mar.Â
Â
A native of Portland, Ore., Coy played collegiately as a middle and opposite at Cal State San Marcos, where she earned four varsity letters and served as team captain during her senior campaign in 2014. She completed her best season statistically as a junior in 2013, posting 179 kills (1.50/set), which ranked third on the squad, while adding 42 digs and 37 blocks.
Â
A member of CSUSM's inaugural volleyball team in 2011, Coy formerly Kara Barkdoll, helped the Cougars to four consecutive A.I.I. conference championships and four NAIA tournament appearances, including a pool play berth in 2012.
Â
Coy received her bachelor's degree in kinesiology from CSUSM in December of 2015. She also earned a master's in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia Irvine in August 2018.
