URBANA, ILL. -Â The UC San Diego men's golf team brought its season to a close Sunday as the Fighting Illini Spring Collegiate wrapped up in Illinois.
The Tritons placed 10th in the field, finishing with a 921, 69-over par on the par-71, 7503-yard course.
The University of Ilinois hosted the 54-hole tournament Saturday and Sunday at Atkins Golf Club.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tritons shot rounds of 303, 310, and 308.
Davis McDowell was the top Triton finisher for the fifth time this season, coming in with a 16-over 229. He posted rounds of 76, 71, and 82.
Two more Tritons were in the top-50 as freshman
Justin Gill tied for 43rd and
Francis Catalano tied for 46th. Gill was 17-over with a 230 and Catalano was 19-over with a 232.
Nathan Tseng tied for 53rd and
Davis Lee tied for 64th.
Host Illinois was the team champion. The Fighting Illini were 12-over for the tournament, shooting rounds of 281, 291, and 292 for an 864.
Michigan State finished second with an 874, 10 strokes behind Illinois. Michigan was third at 29-over.Â
Ryan Voois from the University of Illinois was the individual medalist, finishing with a one-under 212. Voois was just a single stroke ahead of second-place Ashton McCulloch out of Michigan State and two strokes in front of Michigan's Hunter Thomson.

TRITON TIDBITS
• It was the first time that the Tritons had played in this tournament.
• For the only time this season no other Big West teams were in the field with the Tritons.
• UC San Diego will be eligible for Big West and NCAA Division I postseason events for the 2024-25 season as the athletics program is currently in its fourth and final year of transitioning to Division I.Â
