HONOLULU - The 12th-ranked UC San Diego women's water polo team had its seven-game win streak ended Friday with an 18-8 loss to No. 2 Hawai'i at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.
With the Big West loss, the Tritons fall to 14-9 overall and 2-1 in conference action.
The Rainbow Wahine moved to 16-3 on the season and stayed unbeaten in the Big West at 4-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Hawai'i netted five goals in each of the first two quarters and led 10-3 at halftime. The Rainbow Wahine tallied four goals in each of two the remaining quarters.
UC San Diego's
Caroline Christl was responsible for more than half of the team's goals. She scored five times, one in each of the first three quarters and two more in the fourth. Two of her scores came during a power play, while one was tallied on a five-meter penalty shot.
Three other Tritons notched single goals including
Annika Arroyo,
Sila Fedler, and
Kendall Thomas.
Lexi Stahl made seven saves in net for UC San Diego.
Bia Mantellato Dias scored five goals for Hawai'i. Alba Bonamusa Boix and Bernadette Doyle each recorded a hat trick. Goalkeeper Daisy Logtens made 12 saves in 24 minutes of playing time.
Both teams finished with 30 shots apiece. With 18 goals in 30 shots, Hawai'i held a .600 shot percentage.
