Tritons Take Down Cal State Fullerton in Orange County

FULLERTON, Calif. - Caroline Christl continued her impressive scoring streak Friday, tallying four goals to lead No. 12 UC San Diego women's water polo to a 15-4 Big West win at Cal State Fullerton.

The Tritons upped their season record to 15-9 and moved to 3-1 in conference play. The Titans dropped to 9-13 and remain winless in the Big West at 0-3. 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tritons led 4-1 after the opening quarter and 6-2 at halftime. They went on to score nine more goals in the second half, including six in the fourth frame.

The Titans scored once in each quarter.

Christl extended her scoring streak, which began on Feb. 25, to 10 games. Four more Tritons netted multiple goals as Emily Cloherty, Lucia Doak, Cascade Stensland, and Kendall Thomas each scored twice. Courtney Okumura, Abigail Schechter, and Olivia Seargeant all had single goals. Okumura also added a trio of assists.

Grayson Mix established a new career-high with five steals.

Goalie Lexi Stahl made five saves in 24 minutes of action. She also had an assist and a steal. Katie Ward played the final quarter and had a steal.

Cal State Fullerton had four different players score a goal. Edan Tal assisted on two of those. In net, starter Annabelle Sherman made four saves while giving up nine goals over the first 24 minutes of the game.

UC San Diego led in shots (25-19) and shot percentage (.600-.211). Four of the Tritons' goals came on the power play and two were the result of successful five-meter penalty shots.

• Caroline Christl's 10-game scoring streak includes eight games with multiple goals.
• Christl leads the Tritons and is fifth among all Big West players in goals scored (50) and goals/game (2.2).
• Sydney Munatones had two assists, the seventh time this season that she has tallied multiple helpers.
• Abigail Schechter has scored in her last four outings.
• The Tritons are 2-0 in the all-time series against the Titans.

UC San Diego remains on the road to play at 15th-ranked UC Santa Barbara on Sunday, April 7 at noon. The game will be played at Dos Pueblos High School.
