OCALA, Fla. – UC San Diego swim opened night one of the CSCAA National Invitational with two titles and 11 top 10 finishes.
Andrija Petkovic and
Asia Kozan earned their titles breaking two UC San Diego program records.
Currently the women are in fifth place out of 47 teams and the men are sixth out of 36 teams. Both teams have moved up in the rankings since day one.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Opening finals with the 200 medley relay, the Triton women reached the podium again with a third place finish. The relay team was made up of
Teagan Monroe,
Chloe Braun,
Miranda Renner, and
Josette Odgers whose combined time was 1:39.17. On the men's side,
Luigi Franco,
Luke Pusateri,
Chad Morrison, and
Zach Elian finished ninth in the event with a time of 1:27.93.
In the 400 IM, three Tritons swam between both teams.
Asia Kozan and
Eva Boehlke combined for two top 10 finishes when Kozan won the event and Boehlke finished sixth. Taking first, Kozan broke the UC San Diego program record with a time of 4:11.85.
Jake Reuter represented the men's side and finished fifth with a time of 3:51.57.
Finishing fourth in the 100 fly,
Miranda Renner posted a time of 53.27.
Chad Morrison took the same place as Renner on the men's side with a time of 47.11. Two Tritons swam in the 100 back finals with
Eva Boehlke taking 14th and
Luigi Franco finished 18th.
Andrija Petkovic took the second national title of the meet and the men's first in the 200 free with another UC San Diego program record. The senior posted a time of 1:35.05 to win it all and broke the record for the second time today after he did it in prelims.
Aidan Rikic and
Ryan Kirton finished 12th and 14th in the same event.
In the 100 breast,
Chloe Braun swam a 1:00.85 swim in the 100 breast to take third place. This is the second event of the meet that she has been hundredths of a second away from breaking a program record.
The Tritons ended the night with two top 10 finishes in the 800 free. Kozan,
Sophie Francis,
Juli Arzave, and
Sophia Bell finished third with a time of 7:15.76 on the women's side. Taking eighth,
Devin Esser,
Zach Elian,
Aidan Rikic, and
Ryan Kirton swam a time of 6:43.15.
UP NEXT
The Tritons will continue competition at the CSCAA NIC with one more day of competition. Prelims begin each day at 6:30 a.m. PST and finals begin at 3 p.m. PST. Only the top 20 go onto finals to compete in the A or B final.
