OCALA, Fla. – UC San Diego swim opened night one of the CSCAA National Invitational with a first-place finish in the women's 400 medley relay. Between the two squads, there were six top 10 finishes with two program records on the first night of the national meet.
Currently the women are in sixth place out of 47 teams and the men are seventh out of 36 teams.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The women opened the meet with a fourth-place finish in the 200 yard free relay posting a time of 1:30.84. The relay team was made up of
Mackenzie Lee,
Miranda Renner,
Asia Kozan, and
Josette Odgers.
In the 50 back,
Teagan Monroe finished 16th overall with a time of 25.69.
Andrija Petkovic took seventh on the men's side with a time of 22.16.
Four Tritons represented in the 500 free between the men's and women's side.
Juli Arzave and
Sophia Bell competed together to take 15th and 19th respectively. The senior posted a time of 4:51.61 and the sophomore finished at 4:53.24.
Devin Esser took the highest finish in the event, placing 13th with a time of 4:26.87. He was joined by teammate,
Luigi Franco, who finished at 4:33.71 for 19th.
Josette Odgers finished 16th on the women's side with a time of 25.08 in the 50 fly. In the same event,
Chad Morrison took 12th with a time of 21.73.
In the 200 IM,
Eva Boehlke represented the Triton women swimming a time of 2:00.05 for 11th place. The freshman's time was actually the second fastest swim out of the A and B final. On the men's side,
Jake Reuter finished 13th with a time of 1:48.41 with
Colton Milne taking 17th in the same event with a time of 1:49.28.
Swimming in the A final,
Chloe Braun earned a sixth-place finish with a time of 28.27 in the 50 breast. The sophomore was 0.02 away from breaking the university record. In the same event,
Luke Pusateri finished 17th with a time of 25.19, and he also was hundredths of a second away from breaking the program record.
Taking second in the 50 free,
Miranda Renner posted a time of 22.57 to break the school record.
Ending the night, both squads came away with a top finish in the 400 medley relay. The Triton men finished 10th with a time of 3:15.32. The relay team was made up of
Robby Griswold,
Luke Pusateri,
Chad Morrison, and
Aidan Rikic. Defeating the field of 38,
Eva Boehlke,
Chloe Braun,
Miranda Renner, and
Asia Kozan won the championship in the relay with a program record time at 3:35.88.
UP NEXT
The Tritons will continue competition at the CSCAA NIC with three more days of competition. Prelims begin each day at 6:30 a.m. PST and finals begin at 3 p.m. PST. Only the top 20 go onto finals to compete in the A or B final.
