LONG BEACH, Calif. – UC San Diego track and field opened the 2024 outdoor season at the Beach Opener, competing in the hammer throw and javelin in day one of the meet. Three Tritons made their collegiate debuts with two personal records and two top 10 finishes.

ON THE WOMEN'S SIDE
Opening the meet with their collegiate debuts,
Alexandra Farfaras and
Gabriella Lopez both competed in the women's hammer throw. In the field of 37, Farfaras posted a mark of 114' 11" for 26th. Lopez threw a distance of 98' even to take 28th.

ON THE MEN'S SIDE
In the hammer throw,
Matthew Amankonah finished 10th with a mark of 174' and a new personal record for the senior. Making his collegiate debut,
Ian Gammal also posted a personal record with a mark of 122' 5" to finish 30th.
Earning a top 10 finish,
Kyle Gibbs' best mark of the day was 178' 8" for eighth place.
