LA JOLLA, Calif. – UC San Diego women's soccer head coach
Kristin Jones '04 has announced the addition of
Tanner Wolf to the program's staff as the team has begun preparations for the 2024 season. Wolf joins the Tritons staff as an assistant coach, alongside Jones and assistant
Trent Painter.
Wolf comes to La Jolla after spending the past six seasons as an assistant coach at Point Loma, helping the Sea Lions remain a national power at the NCAA Division II level – including winning a national title last fall, the University's first in any sport. At Point Loma, Wolf helped manage the program's recruiting, conditioning, and scouting, among other duties.
"We are ecstatic to have Tanner join our staff," Jones said. "Kristi Kiely and Point Loma have prepared him to come in and make an immediate impact with our program. His values are aligned with our team and staff and his recruiting ability and soccer knowledge are going to help our program reach our ultimate goals."
Wolf also spent two seasons as the head coach at Santa Fe Christian Schools. He is a graduate of Westmont College in Santa Barbara.
"I am incredibly excited to be joining the UC San Diego women's soccer program," Wolf shared. "It is a program with a rich history, and I believe they have the quality and ambition to be a championship level program in this new Division I era. I am also thrilled to have the opportunity to join a staff that is committed to developing high level soccer players and great high quality human beings."
Despite finishing fifth in The Big West standings in 2023, conference regulations prevented the Tritons from taking part in the six-team Big West Championship. As a result of the conference's decision, for UC San Diego's graduating scholar-athletes, their final on-field memory was a thrilling road win at Cal Poly that knocked the Mustangs out of first place in the conference standings in the regular season finale.
The Tritons concluded their season with a 4-3-3 mark in conference play, including wins at tournament second seed UC Davis and the aforementioned triumph in San Luis Obispo. Beginning this fall, UC San Diego will be fully postseason eligible.
