LA JOLLA, Calif. – UC San Diego looks to get back on track Thursday night as the Tritons (15-9, 9-3 Big West) host UC Santa Barbara. Last time out, UC San Diego fell in overtime at Hawai'i. That was the first time this season the Tritons lost when scoring 80 or more points and the 94-point effort by UH marked the most points UC San Diego has allowed in a game this season. The back-to-back setbacks are the first for the Tritons since losing four straight Nov. 24 to Dec. 1.
The Tritons are looking for their first season sweep over the Gauchos (13-10, 6-7) after last month's victory in Santa Barbara – UC San Diego's first-ever at The Thunderdome. A win over the Gauchos would improve the Tritons to 11-1 at home.
Thursday's game tips at 7 p.m. with a live broadcast on both ESPN+ and KSDT Radio as well as live stats on UCSDTritons.com. Tickets can be purchased through
Triton Box Office.

LAST TIME OUT
Five Tritons scored in double figures led by 24 from
Aniwaniwa Tait-Jones, but host Hawai'i earned a 94-86 overtime victory in front of 4,249 inside SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center Thursday night.
The win gave the Rainbow Warriors (13-11 overall, 5-7 Big West) a season split with UC San Diego. The loss was the second straight for the Tritons, who fell to 15-9 overall and 9-3 in conference action.
Tait-Jones was one of five UC San Diego players to finish in double figures.
Tyler McGhie scored 16,
Hayden Gray added 13 with four assists,
Francis Nwaokorie chipped in 12 before fouling out, and
Bryce Pope finished with ten. UC San Diego finished with just seven turnovers, but the Tritons – Big West leaders at better than nine three-pointers per game – were limited to just four makes in 18 tries from distance against one of the nation's toughest defensive teams from the perimeter.
LAST TIME VS. UC SANTA BARBARA (JAN. 4)
UC San Diego built a 24-point lead and hung on for a 79-72 victory over UC Santa Barbara inside The Thunderdome, the program's first win inside that building.
Tyler McGhie was 5-for-7 from beyond the arc with a season-high 25 points in the win for the Tritons.
Bryce Pope scored 20,
Hayden Gray added 11 and
Aniwaniwa Tait-Jones chipped in 10 for UC San Diego (8-6, 2-0 Big West).
The Tritons forced 14 turnovers while committing just six. UC Santa Barbara fell to 7-6 (0-3 Big West) with the setback.
STARTING OFF STRONG

HADLEY INKS DEAL WITH BRISBANE BULLETS OF AUSTRALIA'S NBL
Former Triton Gabe Hadley signed to play for the Brisbane Bullets of Australia's National Basketball League (NBL). First tipping off in 1979, the NBL is the highest level of pro ball in Australasia, with nine teams in Australia and one in New Zealand. Hadley, 25, averaged 24.7 points per game playing for Geelong United of the NBL1 this season.
As a Triton, Hadley averaged more than 12 points, three rebounds and two assists per game as a senior, starting every contest during the COVID-shortened 2020-21 season. The All-Triton Scholar-Athlete Team selection may be best remembered for hitting a fadeaway three-pointer with seconds remaining to send a game against UC Riverside to overtime. Then, in the extra session, he drained the game-winning three-pointer in the final moments.
Hadley has played professionally in his native Australia since graduating from UC San Diego in 2021.
WHY THE TRITONS
The Triton is described as the offspring of Poseidon and Amphitrite, a demigod of the sea with a lower part of the body like that of a fish. It is known as a mighty and fierce sea warrior. Given UC San Diego's close proximity to the Pacific Ocean and its connections with the world-famous Scripps Institution of Oceanography, the Triton became our mascot in 1964.
Single game tickets to UC San Diego basketball home games are now on-sale. For more information or to purchase,
