LA JOLLA, Calif. — Six Tritons from the UC San Diego men's water polo team were recognized with Big West postseason awards as the conference released its annual honorees Friday.
A pair of Tritons were selected to the All-Big West First Team - sophomore
Landon Akerstrom and senior
Lucas Romaguera.
Senior
Eamon Hennessey was tabbed All-Big West Second Team.
To round out the awards, junior
Bennett Axline, senior
Logan Estes, and senior
Felipe Ferreira picked up Honorable Mention accolades.
Five of the six are repeat winners.
In 2023, Axline was named to the Second Team. Akerstrom, Estes, Ferreira, and Romaguera were Honorable Mention picks. Akerstrom could also be found on the All-Freshman Team.
Axline is now a three-year honoree as he was named Freshman of the Year and was an All-Freshman Team pick in 2022.Â
UC San Diego completed its 2024 campaign with a 17-12 overall record and a 3-2 mark in Big West action. The Tritons have been ranked as high as No. 11 in the country. They were the No. 2 seed at the Big West Championship. They defeated host and third-seeded UC Davis in a semifinal before falling to Long Beach State, the No. 5 seed, in the title game.

• Third on team in shots (83), fourth in goals (38), fifth in points (49)
• Scored game-winning goal in the final second vs. UC Davis to secure the No. 2 seed in the Big West Championship

• Scored multiple times in 13 games
• Tallied at least one goal in his last eight games with multiple goals in half of those

• His 14 saves against Pomona-Pitzer were a career-high
• Seven games with multiple steals, including a career-high five against Air Force
• Posted a 16-12 record
