Men's Soccer Enters Second Week of Big West Play

LA JOLLA, Calif. – UC San Diego men's soccer heads into the second week of conference play as they travel to Cal State Fullerton on Wednesday, Oct. 9 before hosting Sacramento State on Saturday, Oct. 12.
 
In the opening week of Big West play, the Titans (5-3-4) went 1-0-1 against UC Irvine and Cal State Bakersfield. Cal State Fullerton defeated UCI in the opening game 2-0 on Wednesday then went on to tie 2-2 against CSUB on Saturday. In the preseason, the Titans defeated then No. 6 UCLA (3-1) and then No. 15 University of San Diego (2-0). Roberto Ordonez currently leads to the team with six goals and seven assists for 19 points. Brandon Limes has played 11 games between the posts making 37 saves to 18 goals allowed.
 
Sacramento State (4-5-2) opened Big West competition 0-1 against Cal State Bakersfield and UC Riverside. Falling in the conference opener on the road, the Hornets were felled by CSUB in 3-0 result. Sac State bounced back on Saturday for a 2-1 win over UC Riverside in Sacramento. In the preseason, Sac State took three wins over USF, SMU, and Santa Clara. Donovan Sessoms leads the Hornets with five goals scored for 10 points. In goal, Mac Learned has tallied 56 saves over 11 games with 16 goals allowed.
 
The Tritons enter the second weekend of Big West play at 1-1 after falling to then No. 22 UC Santa Barbara (3-1) on Wednesday and defeating CSUN (1-0) on Saturday. Max Carvalho prevented the shutout against UCSB with a goal in the sixth minute and then assisted Quinn Sellers against CSUN for the game winner. Carvalho continues to lead the Tritons with three goals and three assists over 11 games. Keeper Nolan Premack has made 49 saves and has allowed 18 goals. Premack is the only Triton to play all 90 minutes of the 11 games.

UC San Diego men's soccer secured the victory in the Tritons' Big West home opener, defeating CSUN, 1-0, on Saturday evening in Triton Soccer Stadium. Quinn Sellers scored the game winner on an assist from Max Carvalho.
 
The Tritons (2-5-4, 1-1-0 Big West) recorded the program's first victory over the Matadors (2-4-4, 0-1-1 Big West) to improve to 1-3 in the all-time series.
