PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas - The UC San Diego golf team sits in seventh place following Friday's opening round of the White Sands NCAA Invitational.
West Virginia is hosting the 12-team tournament at the Ocean Club Golf Course in the Bahamas.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tritons shot a one-over par 289 Friday, tying them with Rutgers for the seventh-place position.
Charleston leads the field at 17-under. Houston is one stroke back at 16-under and Maryland is third at 12-under.
Akira Isayama and
Nathan Tseng both shot 70 and are the top Tritons thus far, tied for 13th at two-under par in the 74-player field.
Freshman
Eli Geddy, making his collegiate debut, shot an even par 72 and is tied for 28th. Geddy is competing as an individual and his scores do not count in the team's total.
Houston's Wolfgang Glawe leads the field at nine-under. Charleston's Kieron Van Wik is one stroke back in second place and Emil Riegger from Maryland is two strokes back of the leader in third.
Twenty-seven players are under par heading into Saturday.
