BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—UC San Diego women's volleyball defeated Cal State Bakersfield, 3-1, on Friday evening in the Icardo Center.
The Tritons (8-8, 2-3 Big West) topped the Roadrunners (9-8, 3-2 Big West) by scores of 25-23, 15-25, 27-25 and 25-21.
Ava McInnes collected a match-high 17 kills, while
Emily McDaniel added 13 and
Kylie Pries and
Jasmine Saran chipped in eight apiece.
Audrey Hollis tallied 43 assists and a match-high 13 digs for her fifth double-double of the season, adding a team-high three aces.
Pries also reached double-figure digs with 10 and
Paulina Baillie added nine. Saran led the Tritons defensively at the net with three blocks, while Pries and McDaniel chipped in two.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After trailing 10-8 early in set one, the Tritons put together an 11-2 scoring run to jump in front for good, 19-12. The Roadrunners fought off three set points but UC San Diego took the opening frame, 25-23.
Cal State Bakersfield took the early lead in set two, building a 15-8 advantage midway through the frame. The Tritons used back-to-back kills for Saran and a Hollis ace to pull within four points, 17-13, but the Roadrunners closed out the set with six unanswered points to win, 25-15.
Behind the tough serving of Hollis, UC San Diego built a 13-7 lead in set three. The Tritons maintained a six-point advantage as late as 18-12 before CSUB began a late rally. The Roadrunners pull even at 22-all and the teams traded the lead before UC San Diego scored back-to-back points to take the set, 27-25.
In the final set, the Tritons jumped out to a 7-0 lead, but CSUB answered with a five-point run of its own. UC San Diego maintained the advantage to 18-12 before the Roadrunners put together a 6-1 run to pull within one point, 19-18. A pair of clutch kills by McDaniel and three more by McInnes helped to bolster the Tritons down the stretch, taking the set, 25-21, and the match, 3-1.
