Another Road Victory for the Tritons

UC San Diego defeated CSUN, 25-17, 25-23, 17-25, 25-14

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.—UC San Diego women's volleyball defeated CSUN, 3-1, on Saturday evening in Premier America Credit Union Arena.
 
The Tritons (9-8, 3-3 Big West) won in four sets for the second consecutive match, topping the Matadors (6-11, 1-5 Big West) by set scores of 25-17, 25-23, 17-25 and 25-14.
 
Kylie Pries led the offense with a match-high 14 kills, while Ava McInnes added 13 and Emily McDaniel finished with 11. Audrey Hollis collected 40 assists, directing the offense to .303 hitting percentage. Jasmine Saran tallied three aces, while Sabire Karacaova added two.
 
McDaniel collected a match-high six blocks (2 solo), while Pries added three (2 solo). Paulina Baillie led the Tritons in the back court with 10 digs, while Iris Canko added nine and Pries finished with six.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tritons hit .448 as a team in the opening set, jumping out to a quick 13-5 lead. UC San Diego maintained its eight-point advantage down the stretch to take the first set, 25-17.
 
After the Tritons took an early 7-4 lead to begin the second set, the Matadors battled back to tie the set, 11-all. The teams traded a two-point swing down the stretch and UC San Diego took the second set, 25-23.
 
The teams remained close to begin the third set before CSUN put together a six-point scoring run to lead, 15-7. The Tritons battled to within four points, 20-16, forcing a CSUN timeout but the Matadors outscored UC San Diego, 5-1, to close out the set, 25-17, and extend the match.
 
In the final set, the Tritons came out on fire to build a comfortable 9-1 lead and never look back. Midway through the set, UC San Diego put together a five-point scoring run to extend its lead, 21-10. The Tritons maintained the momentum down the stretch to cruise to a 25-14 victory.

UC San Diego will return home to play host to Cal State Fullerton (Oct. 18) and UC Irvine (Oct. 19) next weekend with both matches scheduled for 6 p.m. The matches will be broadcast on ESPN+ and live statistics will be available via UCSDTritons.com.
