LA JOLLA, Calif. – Opening Big West conference play on the road, UC San Diego men's soccer will travel north to face No. 22 UC Santa Barbara on Wednesday, Oct. 2. The Tritons will return to La Jolla on Saturday, Oct. 5 to host CSUN.

Entering the week, UC Santa Barbara (6-2-1) comes in at the No. 22 spot on the United Soccer Coaches top 25 list after a dominant preseason. In the Big West Preseason Poll, the Gauchos were selected to finish third overall and currently lead the conference. UCSB has scored 23 goals in the preseason with Alexis Ledoux leading the Gauchos and the entire Big West with 7 goals of his own. Over 9 games, Gaucho keeper David Mitzner has allowed only 7 goals with 4 clean sheets.

CSUN (2-3-3) enters Big West play in 8th place and will face UC Riverside on Wednesday before traveling to La Jolla. The Matadors were selected to finish 6th overall in the preseason poll and played some significant opponents in the preseason, including then No. 18 JMU and then No. 11 LMU. CSUN has scored 10 goals so far with three Matadors scoring two goals apiece. Deryk Jones Jr. leads the team in points with two goals and two assists. Matador keeper, Merrick Cook has allowed 11 goals with two clean sheets.

UC San Diego (1-4-4) wraps their three-game road stand and opens Big West play against the Gauchos on Wednesday night in Santa Barbara. Selected to finish 8th overall in the preseason poll, the Tritons are currently in 10th place after a grueling preseason. In their nine preseason games, the gold and blue scored 13 goals, and three of their four losses were decided by a one goal difference.
Max Carvalho and
Kai Oppenheim lead the team with six points each both scoring two goals and tallying two assists.
Nolan Premack has tallied 40 saves with one clean sheet.

About UC San Diego Athletics
After two decades as one of the most successful programs in NCAA Division II, the UC San Diego intercollegiate athletics program began a new era in 2020 as a member of The Big West in NCAA Division I.
