Tritons Swept at Long Beach State

UC San Diego fell to LBSU, 3-0, on Thursday evening

LONG BEACH, Calif.—UC San Diego women's volleyball fell to Long Beach State, 3-0, on Thursday evening in Walter Pyramid. The Tritons (8-7, 0-3 Big West) dropped set scores of 20-25, 11-25, 16-25 to move to 0-5 in the all-time series with the Beach (8-5, 2-1 Big West).
 
The Tritons' offense struggled, led by Ava McInnes with four kills, while Reagan Dryden and Jasmine Saran added three. Defensively, Juliette Bokor led the team with two blocks, while McInnes and Natalie Repetti collected seven digs apiece. Nevada Knowles tallied 11 assists.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The teams kept things close to begin the opening set, battling all the way to a 15-15 tie. The Beach then put together a 6-1 scoring run to create distance, 20-16. The Tritons continued to battle but the deficit proved to much as LBSU took the opening frame, 25-20.
 
The Beach used a nine-point scoring run early in set two to build a 15-3 lead. UC San Diego scored three consecutive points to end the run, but LBSU maintained momentum. Long Beach State held the Tritons to a -.031 hitting percentage in the frame and took the second set, 25-11.
 
The third set remained close to start, with UC San Diego leading 6-5 early. The Beach then scored seven unanswered on their way to a 13-2 scoring run that put the set out of reach. The Tritons put together a mini four-point run late in the set to make it 20-13, but LBSU closed out the set easily, 25-16, and earned the sweep.
 
TRITON TIDBITS
  • The Tritons were held to their lowest hitting percentage of the season (.063), and lowest since Nov. 27, 2021 at Cal Poly (.019).
  • LBSU held the advantage in blocks (8-3), aces (7-2), kills (54-17), assists (49-15) and digs (59-38).
  • With the loss, the Tritons moved to 0-5 in the all-time series with Long Beach State.
