NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The UC San Diego men's golf team is sitting in second place and three players are among the top-10 following Saturday's two rounds at the Macdonald Cup.
Yale is hosting the 12-team, 72-player tournament Saturday and Sunday at the Yale Golf Course in Connecticut.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tritons are 18-over par on the par-70, 6,795-yard course. They shot rounds of 291 and 287 for a total of 578.Â
UC San Diego is six strokes back of Yale, who leads the field with a 12-over 572 (286-286). Seton Hall is currently in third place, just one stroke back of the Tritons.
Francis Catalano is the top Triton thus far, sitting in fourth at 2-over par. He fired rounds of 69 and 73 for a 142, two strokes behind the leader. His 69 in the opening round was the lowest score of the day by any Triton.
Nathan Tseng is tied for sixth at 4-over par and
Jerry Wu is tied for ninth at 5-over.
Tseng and Wu made significant jumps in the standings from one round to another with Wu elevating himself up 27 spots and Tseng moving up 13 positions.
Davis McDowell is tied for 40th at 12-over par. He shot six strokes better in the second round to move up 18 spots on the leader board.
No players will be under par heading into Sunday's final round. The individual leader is Yale's Gabriel Ruiz, who totaled an even par 140 with rounds of 71 and 69. Aiden Azevedo of Bryant and Robert Yu from Yale are tied for second, one stroke behind Ruiz.
Sunday's third round tees off at 5 a.m. Pacific and it can be followed with
live scoring.

• This is UC San Diego's second tournament of the 2023-24 season.
• The Tritons finished 11th of 24 teams at the Falcon Invite, hosted by Air Force, two weeks ago.
Davis McDowell was the top finisher, tying for 17th of 120.
• McDowell was UC San Diego's top finisher in seven of 11 tournaments last season.
