IRVINE, Calif. – Senior midfielder Alessandro Allen was named to the 2023 Big West Men's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Team, Thursday afternoon. This is the first time a Triton has made the preseason team in the Division I era.
 
Along with the preseason team, the Big West announced the Preseason Coaches' Poll with UC San Diego projected to finish eighth.

In 2022, the gold and blue finished 8-8-2 overall and 4-5 in conference. In non-conference play, the Tritons defeated then No. 22 Santa Clara University in a decisive 2-0 victory. This was the Tritons' first top 25 team victory in the Division I era. In conference play, UC San Diego's five losses were all by a score of 0-1 with preseason favorite UC Santa Barbara winning on a penalty kick.
 
In their final year of reclassification, the Tritons return 18 veterans and add 11 newcomers, including five transfers.

UC San Diego will open its season at home on Thursday, Aug. 24 when they host the Pacific Tigers at Triton Soccer Stadium. The Tritons' home slate continues until Sep. 8 when they travel to the University of Denver.
