Women’s Volleyball Announces 2023 Schedule

LA JOLLA, Calif.—UC San Diego women's volleyball head coach Ricci Luyties has announced the Tritons' 2023 competition schedule. The slate features the UC San Diego Invitational and three early season tournaments on the road before the Tritons open Big West play on Sept. 22 at home against UC Santa Barbara.
 
The season will get underway at the Butler Brawl on Aug. 25 and 26 in Indianapolis, Ind., where the Tritons will take on Fresno State on Friday and face Kent State and host Butler on Saturday. UC San Diego will remain on the road in week two for the Gonzaga Tournament on Sept. 1 and 2 in Spokane, Wash. The Tritons will face Air Force and Idaho on Friday before taking on the host Gonzaga on Saturday. 
 
The Tritons will host the UC San Diego Invitational, Sept. 7-9, in LionTree Arena. UC San Diego will host crosstown foe San Diego State in the home opener to start the tournament on Thursday, then face Navy and Denver on Friday and Saturday respectively. The Tritons will also host three neutral contests between the other participating schools.
 
To wrap up the nonconference slate, UC San Diego will travel to Nashville for a two-site invitational hosted by Tennessee State and Belmont, Sept. 14-16. The Tritons will face Tennessee State on Thursday and take on Jackson State and Belmont on Friday. 
 
UC San Diego will play host to UC Santa Barbara (Sept. 22) and Cal Poly (Sept. 23) to open The Big West schedule in LionTree Arena. Other home conference matchups include 2022 Big West champion Hawai'i on Sept. 30, UC Riverside (Oct. 13), UC Davis (Oct. 14), UC Irvine (Oct. 21), CSU Bakersfield (Nov. 3), CSUN (Nov. 4) and Long Beach State (Nov. 14). 
 
The Tritons will celebrate Homecoming in LionTree Arena on Oct. 21 against the Anteaters and recognize their seniors on Nov. 14 for Senior Night against the Beach.
 
On the road, UC San Diego will face Long Beach State (Sept. 28), CSUN (Oct. 6), CSU Bakersfield (Oct. 7), Cal State Fullerton (Oct. 19), UC Davis (Oct. 26), UC Riverside (Oct. 28), Cal Poly (Nov. 10) and UC Santa Barbara (Nov. 11). The Tritons will conclude the 2023 season on the road at Hawai'i (Nov. 17).
 
Season and single game ticket information will be available soon. All home games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
 
The 2023 campaign marks the final season for the Tritons in the NCAA-mandated Division I reclassifying period. After the 2023-24 academic year, UC San Diego Athletics will be a full D-I member school and all athletic programs will be eligible for NCAA postseason competition.
 
UC San Diego women's volleyball finished its second season of Division I competition in 2022 with a 14-18 record and 7-13 mark in conference play, earning the Tritons a seventh-place finish in The Big West.
