LA JOLLA, Calif. -
Daniel Traxler of the UC San Diego men's tennis team was named the Big West Player of the Week Wednesday.
Traxler earned three victories over two road matches this past week. Playing at No. 1 singles, the senior topped opponents from Big West rival UC Riverside as well as San Diego State. Traxler was also a winner at No. 1 doubles against the Aztecs.
At SDSU Wednesday, Traxler teamed with
Pelayo Rodriguez at the top doubles position to defeat Johannes Seeman and Chikaya Sato, 6-4. After rain forced the postponement of the match until Saturday, Traxler returned to action to take down Seeman in three sets, 6-2, 1-6, and 6-3.
In Riverside Friday, Traxler ground out a win against Djakouris Antreas. He took the opening set 7-6 (7-2). After dropping a 6-4 decision in the second set, Traxler put a lid on it with a 6-4 win in set three.
It is Traxler's second time winning the honor as he also received it on April 28 of 2021, the program's first-ever Big West award. He was tabbed All-Big West Second Team for singles in 2021 and All-Big West Honorable Mention in 2022 along with doubles partner
William Lan.
