Tritons Blank Point Loma in Friday Win

LA JOLLA, Calif. – UC San Diego tack on another win for the season with a 4-0 victory against Point Loma Friday, Jan. 23. The Tritons move to 2-2 on the season.
 
The Tritons took the doubles point quickly over the Sea Lions with victories from No. 1 Prathinav Chunduru and Zach Pellouchoud and No. 2 Abhinav Chunduru and Trevor Ngyuen. Singles matches were won by David Adamson, Zach Pellouchoud, and Andrew Beceiro.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Prathinav Chunduru and Pellouchoud finished their court first, with a 6-0 score. The Tritons secured their first point when Abhinav Chunduru and Nguyen took the No. 2 court 6-2. No. 3 was left unfinished, with Oliver Worth and Beceiro leading 5-3.
 
The Tritons expanded their lead in the dual match when Adamson took his court in a near sweep, 6-0, 6-1. Pellouchoud earned the Tritons their next point on No. 3. Pellouchoud held his lead through both games and finished 6-1, 6-1. Andrew Beceiro clinched the Tritons the match after some back and forth competition in his first game. He ultimately swept his opponent in the second and won 6-3, 6-0.
 
The three remaining singles matches were left unfinished once the Tritons clinched the win. Abhinav Chunduru had won his first game 6-2 and was at match point with his opponent, 5-3, when the match was called. In similar fashion, Prathinav Chunduru won 6-1 in the first and was leading 4-3 in the second. On No. 1 Worth had taken the first 6-4 and in the second was trailing 3-2.

QUOTABLE
"Our guys had a great start from the opening serve and continued until the final point to decide the match," head coach Timmer Willing states. "With a clinch from Andy we had Abi with a match point of his own and others with breaks to close out their match. Great team effort today."
