IRVINE, Calif. — The UC San Diego track and field team concluded day one of the Vince O'Boyle Track and Field Classic hosted by UC Irvine. The men and women's teams put in solid performances with top-ten finishes in their respective events.

In the men's category,
Matthew Amankonah stood out with his performance in the hammer throw event finishing fifth overall with a distance of 48.38m.
Kyle Gibbs also put in a commendable performance in the javelin throw, finishing fifth overall with a distance of 54.51m.

For the women,
Feyi Olukanni made her mark in the hammer throw event, finishing eighth overall with a distance of 43.85m while
Katie Cuneo performed remarkably well in the javelin throw finishing second overall with a distance of 44.56m.

TRITON TIDBITS
- Both Feyi Olukanni and Matthew Amankonah are new to the hammer event with Olukanni hitting another personal best on day one of the Vince O'Boyle Track and Field Classic.
- Katie Cuneo, finishing second in the Javelin Throw, was very close to hitting her prior personal record.
- UC San Diego earned top-ten finishes in all of the events participated in on day one.
