JULIA DI SILVESTRI, TRACK & FIELD, SO., POLE VAULT

UC San Diego sophomore Julia Di Silvestri had a standout performance at the 44th annual Aztec Invitational last weekend. Di Silvestri was the Triton standout performer, clearing 3.87m in the pole vault. That height landed her in a second place tie on UC San Diego's all-time list and was good for sixth overall in the meet.

Martinez, Izaak

IZAAK MARTINEZ, BASEBALL, R-JR., LHP

Triton redshirt junior Izaak Martinez pitched 4.0 shutout innings in two appearances to help UC San Diego sweep CSU Bakersfield in the weekend series. Martinez pitched two shout innings in the opener on Friday, retiring all six batters faced including three strikeouts. In the Sunday finale, Martinez earned his first save of the season, shutting out the Roadrunners in the final two innings and collecting four strikeouts. Martinez has allowed just two runs in his last seven appearances and five total hits.

MICHAEL FUHRMAN, BASEBALL, SR., 2B

Senior Michael Fuhrman opened up the conference schedule in a big way, finishing 6-for-14 (.429) with two three-run homers to help UC San Diego sweep Long Beach State for the first time in program history. The Tritons' second baseman finished the week with six runs scored and seven RBI, with a .857 slugging percentage in a 4-0 week for UC San Diego.

Kendall Thomas

KENDALL THOMAS, WOMEN'S WATER POLO, SO., C

Sophomore center Kendall Thomas netted a career-high seven goals as the 16th-ranked UC San Diego women's water polo team crushed Big West opponent Cal State Fullerton, 19-7, at home Friday in the Tritons' only game of the week. Thomas, a 2022 All-America Honorable Mention pick, now leads UC San Diego in goals with 41. It was the first-ever meeting between the Tritons and Titans. The last UC San Diego player to score seven goals in a game was All-American Lauren Boyer against Pacific in 2017.

JULI ARZAVE, WOMEN'S SWIMMING, SR., FREESTYLE

Leading the UC San Diego women to a sixth-place finish at the CSCAA National Invitational Championships, senior distance swimmer Juli Arzave broke two records in the 1650 yard freestyle. On the final day of competition, Arzave snapped both the UC San Diego record and the CSCAA NIC meet record with a time of 16:14.97.

Vedran Markota

VEDRAN MARKOTA, MEN'S FENCING, SR., EPEE

Senior team captain Vedran Markota swept the epee titles this past weekend at the NCAA West Regionals Championships and the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Conference Championships. Saturday, Markota went 12-2 to win the title over Stanford, UIW, and the Air Force Academy. He did it again on Sunday, going undefeated in the tableau to sweep the conference title. This is the second year of the MPSF Conference Championships and the second year in a row that the Tritons have taken a title home with them.

EMILY CANGELOSI, WOMEN'S BASKETBALL, R-SR., GUARD

UC San Diego's Emily Cangelosi averaged 18.0 points in two games for the Tritons, including 19 on her senior day Saturday against Cal State Fullerton. Cangelosi shot 51.9% from the field, including 8-of-15 (53.3%) from three-point range. The senior guard averaged 6.5 rebounds per game, adding four assists, three steals and 36 total points in the final week of the 2022-23 season for the Tritons.

Ryan Ka

RYAN KA, MEN'S VOLLEYBALL, SR., OUTSIDE HITTER

Ryan Ka had a career night in a five-set loss against No. 12 Ball State Sunday. The senior outside hitter put down 31 kills to establish a new career-high. That total is the third-most in a five-set match and the fourth-most in any match, regardless of set count, across all NCAA Division I and II teams in the country this season. In addition, it is the most kills by a Triton since 2017. Ka was efficient with his attack, posting a .431 hitting percentage with just six errors in 58 swings. He also added a service ace, a block, and a dig to his totals. Two days prior at UC Santa Barbara, Ka registered a team-high 11 kills while also finishing with seven digs, two assists, a block, and an ace. For the week, he averaged 4.7 kills and 5.0 points per set and hit .323.

Anthony Eyanson

ANTHONY EYANSON, BASEBALL, RHP, FR.

Anthony Eyanson was dominant in his first collegiate start, pitching 5.0 shutout innings against Arizona on Monday. The freshman right-hander allowed just two hits with no walks and six strikeouts, holding the Wildcats to a .118 batting average in the Tritons' final game of the MLB Desert Invitational.

Lexi Stahl

LEXI STAHL, WOMEN'S WATER POLO, SO., GOALKEEPER

Sophomore goalie Lexi Stahl twice finished with a double-figure save total during the Barbara Kalbus Invitational. In a win against Pomona-Pitzer, Stahl made a career-high 17 saves. Ten of her stops came in the second half as she had five in the third quarter and five more in the fourth. The next day, Stahl finished with 12 saves against No. 11 Indiana. Over four games at the tournament, she turned aside four 5-meter penalty shots.

Francis Nwaokorie

DAVIS MCDOWELL, MEN'S GOLF, R-SO.

Davis McDowell earned the first victory of his collegiate career and helped the UC San Diego men's golf team place third at the Orange County Collegiate Classic on Feb. 14. McDowell is the first tournament champion from UC San Diego since the team moved to the NCAA Division I level for the 2020-21 academic year. McDowell, a redshirt sophomore, finished with an eight-under par 208 over 54 holes on the South Course at Coto de Caza Golf & Racquet Club. After carding rounds of 66 and 73 Monday, he came into the third and final round in second place. McDowell put together a round of 69 on the par-72, 6,950-yard layout to top the 59-player field and win by two strokes over his nearest competitor. He had five birdies in the third round, four of those coming over a five-hole stretch near the end of his round. His consistent play earned him 11 pars with just two bogeys. McDowell has been the Tritons' top finisher in four of five tournaments so far this season.

Katja Pavicevic

KATJA PAVICEVIC, WOMEN'S SWIMMING, SR., BREASTSTROKE/IM

UC San Diego senior captain Katja Pavicevic led the women's swim team to a second-place finish at the MPSF Conference Championships. Over the grueling four-day meet, Pavicevic competed in all four finals sessions, posting two second-place finishes, two championships, three school records, and set a MPSF meet record twice in the same day with a NCAA qualifying time. As the second leg of the 200 yard medley relay, Pavicevic helped the squad set a school record at 1:38.03. In the 200 yard IM, the Canadian product finished second in finals with a time of 2:00.63. Posting a NCAA B cut swim in the prelims of the 100 yard breaststroke, Pavicevic went on to the final to snap the school record and swim a lifetime best with a time of 1:00.83. On the final day of the championships, Pavicevic had a career day as she broke the MPSF meet record twice in the 200 yard breaststroke. In prelims she finished with a time of 2:11.22 to break the four-year-old school record. She then broke her hours-old records in the final, swimming a time of 2:09.06 to win the event. Along with the conference meet record, she set a new school record, set a new lifetime best, and swam an NCAA qualifying time.

FRANCIS NWAOKORIE, MEN'S BASKETBALL, SO., F

Sophomore forward Francis Nwaokorie had a standout performance Thursday at Hawai'i in the Tritons' lone game of the week. He scored 25 points – one shy of his career-high – on 9-13 shooting (including 3-for-5 from beyond the arc). He pulled down five rebounds and blocked a shot while committing just one turnover.

Deena Pederson

DEENA PEDERSON, SOFTBALL, JR., UT

Appearing in all five games of UC San Diego softball's opening weekend, leadoff hitter Deena Pederson led the Tritons to a 3-2 record. The junior went 7-for-16 at the plate with four singles, a double, a triple, and the first Triton home run of the season. Batting .483 and slugging .813, Pederson scored five runs and went 2-for-2 on the base paths. In the field, Pederson had 10 catches with three putouts and seven assists.

Derek Rong

DEREK RONG, MEN'S FENCING, FR., EPEE

Leading the UC San Diego men's epee squad to an undefeated 9-0 run at the Northwestern Duals, freshman Derek Rong went 20-1 over the course of 14 rounds of competition. Rong led the squad to wins over top teams such as Notre Dame, OSU, and Stanford.

VALERIE YUE, WOMEN'S SWIM, SR., BACKSTROKE/BUTTERFLY

Helping the Tritons defeat the University of San Diego 162 to 90 points in a Saturday afternoon dual meet, senior Valerie Yue took two victories over the Toreros. The senior posted the first win of the meet for the blue and gold in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 56.33. Her second victory came in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:04.02.

Sydney Brown

SYDNEY BROWN, WOMEN'S BASKETBALL, GR., F

Sydney Brown matched her career high with 31 points against CSUN, accounting for fifty percent of the Tritons' offense in a 62-55 win on Thursday evening. She scored in double-figures again in UC San Diego's 63-50 victory over UC Riverside on Saturday to average 20.5 points per game for the week. The graduate student shot 46.4% from the field with four threes and went 11-for-13 (84.6%) at the free-throw line. Brown also averaged 7.0 rebounds per game, adding four steals, three assists and two blocks.

Derek Rong

DEREK RONG, MEN'S FENCING, FR., EPEE

Representing UC San Diego internationally at the Canada Cup, freshman Derek Rong won the Junior Men's Epee division and finished third in the Senior division. In the Junior pool competition, Rong went 4-1 to earn a bye round in the tableau. He went on to defeat the next six competitors to take first place out of the field of 65. Facing 117 fencers in the Senior division, the Canadian product went 4-1 again in pool competition to earn another bye round. Rong was undefeated in the tableau for seven rounds before falling to the second-place finisher. This is the best international finish a Triton has posted in the 2022-2023 season.

PELAYO RODRIGUEZ, MEN'S TENNIS, SO.

Sophomore Pelayo Rodriguez was instrumental in two nail-biting UC San Diego victories this past week. With Sunday's match against Loyola Marymount tied 3-3, Rodriguez battled for a win at No. 5 singles to clinch a 4-3 victory for the Tritons. He dominated the opening set, winning by a score of 6-1. After dropping the second set, 6-3, he regrouped to take the third and deciding set, 6-4. Two days prior, the Tritons found themselves in an identical situation, tied 3-3 with Sacramento State. It came down to the No. 5 singles contest and Rodriguez did not disappoint. He defeated Rudolfs Aksenoks in three sets, losing the first 6-4 and turning the tables to win the next two by scores of 7-5 and 6-0. Rodriguez added a doubles victory to his list last week as well, teaming with Phillip Lan to take a 6-2 win against San Francisco Thursday.

KATELYN VU, WOMEN'S TENNIS, SO.

For the second straight match, UC San Diego sophomore Katelyn Vu helped lead the Tritons to a dramatic, come-from-behind, victory. Playing at No. 6 on Saturday, Vu topped Nevada's Mathilde Sarcelet, 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 as the Tritons beat the Wolf Pack, 4-3. In doubles action, Vu and senior Rachel Wagner were victorious over Nevada's Sarcelet and Wiem Boubaker, 6-3.

SYDNEY BROWN, WOMEN'S BASKETBALL, GR., F

Forward Sydney Brown became the sixth Triton in program history to record 1,000 points and 600 rebounds over the week. Brown recorded her 600th rebound on Wednesday at UC Riverside and tallied her 1,000th point on Saturday against CSU Bakersfield. The graduate student finished with her third double-double of the season, recording 20 points and 10 rebounds in the 62-50 victory over the Roadrunners. Brown averaged 11.0 points and 7.5 rebounds on the week with five assists, one block and one steal.

CHARLES QIAN, MEN'S TENNIS, SO.

Sophomore Charles Qian won both of his singles matches Friday in La Jolla. Playing at No. 6, Qian clinched a 4-3 win for UC San Diego against Nevada in the team's first dual match of the season. In a long battle that finished after the sun went down, Qian dropped the first set against Juan Batalla, 7-6, but rallied take the next two by scores of 7-5 and 6-4. Qian was also victorious later that evening, taking down Jakob Mosfold from 37th-ranked Arkansas in straight sets, 6-3 and 6-2, also at No. 6.

SYDNEY BROWN, WOMEN'S BASKETBALL, GR., F

Sydney Brown recorded her second double-double of the season, finishing with 18 points and 13 rebounds to lead UC San Diego to a dramatic come-from-behind victory at Hawai'i, 60-57. The graduate student went 4-for-4 from three-point range and tallied 13 of her points and nine of her rebounds in the second-half comeback for the Tritons. Brown also matched her career high with three blocked shots against the defending Big West champions.

KYLAND PARENTI, SWIMMING & DIVING, SR., 1M/3M DIVING

Helping the Tritons to a 156-138 victory over CSU Bakersfield, Kyland Parenti swept the men's diving events. In the one-meter he posted a score of 245 and in the three-meter he earned a score of 269.4, adding a total of 18 points to UC San Diego's score.

JULIA MACABUHAY, WOMEN'S BASKETBALL, R-SR., G

UC San Diego's Julia Macabuhay became the 12th Triton in program history to score 1,000 career points, averaging a team-best 11.5 points in the opening week of Big West play. The redshirt senior scored eight points against Long Beach State, including her 1,000th on a made and-one free throw. In Saturday's, 68-58, victory over UC Santa Barbara, Macabuhay scored a season-best 15 points, including 12 in the final 2:31 and went 7-for-10 at the free throw line to ice the game. She also finished with five assists, three rebounds and two steals on the weekend for the Tritons.

EMMANUEL TSHIMANGA, MEN'S BASKETBALL, JR., C

UC San Diego center Emmanuel Tshimanga helped lead the Tritons to a road split last week, winning at 21-22 regular season champ Long Beach and falling to Santa Barbara, currently atop The Big West standings. Tshimanga averaged 15 points and 7 rebounds in the two road contests. The first-year Triton hit 10-of-17 field goal tries (58.8%) and was 10-for-15 from the free throw line.

IZZY FORSYTH, WOMEN'S BASKETBALL, SO., G

Sophomore Izzy Forsyth recorded a career-best 23 points in UC San Diego's 61-56 victory over Seattle U on Wednesday. Forsyth hit 8-of-13 from the field and went 6-for-6 at the charity stripe in 34 minutes for the Tritons. She also collected a career-high eight rebounds, including three offensive boards, and tallied two blocks, two steals and an assist in UC San Diego's final non-conference contest of the season.

BRYCE POPE, MEN'S BASKETBALL, R-JR., G

UC San Diego guard Bryce Pope scored a game-high 20 points in the Tritons' contest at San Diego State, connecting on 9-of-17 field goal tries. He had a career-high five steals, four rebounds, and committed just one turnover over 34 minutes played. For the season, Pope ranks third in The Big West in scoring at 18.8 points per game.

PARKER MONTGOMERY, WOMEN'S BASKETBALL, JR., G

Junior guard Parker Montgomery averaged 13.0 points in two games for the Tritons over the weekend. Montgomery matched her career high with 19 points at Cal on Friday night, including a season-best three three-pointers as well as two rebounds, two steals and two assists. She shot 41.7 percent from the field for the weekend and finished with 26 points, three steals, three assists and two rebounds.

FRANCIS NWAOKORIE, MEN'S BASKETBALL, SO., F

UC San Diego sophomore Francis Nwaokorie averaged 13.3 points and 6.7 rebounds per contest over three games last week, shooting 55.6% overall and 40% from beyond the arc. Nwaokorie has established a new season-high in points scored in each of his last four games, including a 16-point, nine rebound effort over 22 minutes in Saturday's win over Occidental.

J'RAAN BROOKS, MEN'S BASKETBALL, SR., F

Senior J'Raan Brooks scored a career-high 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting and pulled down a personal-best 13 rebounds in the Tritons' victory over Bethesda on Friday night at LionTree Arena. He logged a career-high 32 minutes in the win and his seven made field goals also established a new personal best. Brooks' double-double was his first ever, and the first by a Triton this season.

KATJA PAVICEVIC, WOMEN'S SWIMMING, SR., BREASTSTROKE/IM

Katja Pavicevic led the Tritons at the Toyota US Open when she broke the 19-year-old UC San Diego team record in the 100-meter breaststroke on Friday with a time of 1:10.47, finishing third in the B final. Her time was milliseconds away from an Olympic qualifying swim. She competed in the 200-meter IM on Thursday, posting a time of 2:24.64, and wrapped up her competition on Saturday in the 200-meter breaststroke, finishing 10th with a time of 2:33.12. Pavicevic represented UC San Diego in the greatest number of races at the Toyota US Open, swimming three different events over three days.

ZARIA HENDERSON, WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL, SO., OH

Sophomore Zaria Henderson averaged 4.88 points per set to lead UC San Diego in its final weekend of the 2022 season. The outside hitter collected a team-best 34 kills (4.25 per set) and added 17 digs (2.13 per set), with three aces and four blocks for the Tritons. Henderson recorded her 12th double-double on Friday, finishing with 18 kills, 10 digs and adding three blocks and one ace to finish with a season-high 20.5 points in UC San Diego's 3-1 win over CSU Bakersfield. On Saturday, she tallied 16 kills and added seven digs, two aces and a block against Cal Poly in the Tritons' season finale.

BRYCE POPE, MEN'S BASKETBALL, RS-JR., G

UC San Diego guard Bryce Pope had a memorable week in lifting the Tritons to a pair of road victories. Tuesday at George Washington, Pope scored a career-high 31 points on 11-of-16 shooting. On Sunday at Eastern Michigan, Pope scored a game-high 20. For the week, he averaged 25.5 points, connecting on 5-of-11 three-point tries while shooting 52.9% (18-34) overall. Pope's 31-point game was second-most in a single game scored by a Triton during the program's Division I era. He currently ranks second in The Big West at 19.3 points per game.

EMILY CANGELOSI, WOMEN'S BASKETBALL, R-SR., GUARD
 
Redshirt senior guard Emily Cangelosi recorded a career-high 25 points to lead UC San Diego to an 85-76 victory over Portland on Sunday. Cangelosi finished with a career-best seven three-pointers, shooting 47 percent from the field and 58 percent from the perimeter. She added three rebounds, two assists and a steal to help the Tritons secure the victory in their home opener.

ALEXANDER NEMETH, MEN'S WATER POLO, SR., GOALKEEPER

Alexander Nemeth, UC San Diego's senior goalie, played a pivotal role in helping the Tritons advance to the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) Championships title game. Over three tournament matches, Nemeth posted a 2-1 record and recorded 37 saves and a .552 save percentage. Ranked 11th nationally and seeded third in the tournament, UC San Diego opened play by defeating No. 17 and sixth-seeded California Baptist, 12-7. Nemeth made 10 stops in net added an assist and a steal. In a huge, 13-10 semifinal victory against 12th-ranked, second-seeded, and tournament host Loyola Marymount, Nemeth turned aside 18 scoring bids by the Lions, one short of his career high. It was the 10th time he made 10 or more saves in 2022. In the championship game against No. 5 and top-seeded UC Davis, he made another nine saves as UC San Diego lost, 13-12, in overtime. Nemeth was named to the all-tournament team for his stellar performance. Earlier in the week, he was honored with All-WWPA Honorable Mention accolades.

VEDRAN LATKOVIC, MEN'S WATER POLO, SR., UTILITY
 
On senior night, Vedran Latkovic fittingly lit up the pool by scoring a career-high eight goals to propel 12th-ranked UC San Diego to a 14-8 victory over No. 10 UC Irvine. The senior from Montenegro scored two goals in the first quarter, three in the second, two in the third, and ended his night with one more in the fourth, eclipsing his previous single-game scoring mark of six. Latkovic extended his current scoring streak to 17 games and has now netted multiple goals in 18 of 23 outings this season. He has recorded at least a hat trick in 14 games. Latkovic continues to lead the Tritons in goals (70) and points (91). Among all WWPA players, he ranks fourth in goals, just two behind second-place.

DENALI PINTO, WOMEN'S BASKETBALL, GR., GUARD

Grad transfer Denali Pinto put up strong numbers in UC San Diego's season opener at California Baptist. Despite playing limited minutes, Pinto led the Tritons with 17 points, hitting 4-for-8 from the field, including 3-for-5 from three-point range and finishing 6-for-6 at the free throw line. The Boulder, Colo. native also finished with five rebounds, three assists and one steal for the Tritons.

VEDRAN LATKOVIC, MEN'S WATER POLO, SR., UTILITY
 
Senior Vedran Latkovic scored three goals and added an assist for four points in a WWPA contest against fifth-ranked and conference preseason favorite UC Davis Saturday at home. Two of his goals came with under two minutes remaining in the game to get the Tritons back within one each time – once at 7-6 and again at 8-7. His goal, point, and shot (6) totals were the most by any player in the pool. Currently riding a 16-game scoring streak, Latkovic has netted at least one goal in 21 of 23 games and has scored multiple times on 17 occasions.

KATIE RAPP, WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL, FR., OPPOSITE

Freshman opposite Katie Rapp tied her career high with 12 kills and recorded her first career double-double with 10 digs to lead UC San Diego to a 3-0 sweep of UC Riverside. Rapp added three aces and a block assist to finish with a team-high 15.5 points in the contest. She averaged 3.00 kills on the weekend, hitting .385.

KATJA PAVICEVIC, WOMEN'S SWIMMING, SR., BREASTSTROKE/IM
 
UC San Diego's swim and dive captain, Katja Pavicevic led the Tritons to victory over UC Davis in a dual meet Saturday. Pavicevic earned three first-place finishes and scored a total of 29 points. Leading off the meet with a win, the 200-yard medley relay team made posted a 1:41.60 time and the captain swam a 28.1 split. In the 100-yard breaststroke, she touched the wall almost three seconds faster than the second place finisher. In her final first-place finish, Pavicevic posted a 2:13.48 time in the 200-yard breaststroke, which was five seconds ahead of her competitors.

ISAAC IVE, MEN'S FENCING, SO., EPEE

In the 26th running of the renowned BladeRunner Tournament, sophomore Isaac Ive led the Tritons to victory in Division 1-A Men's Epee. After competing in a pool of 91 competitors, Ive won five straight duels and scored 30 touches while only receiving 11. In the tableau, he had a first round bye and then landed 85 more touches to go undefeated on the day and take first in the weapon. To earn his inaugural BladeRunner title, Ive had to make his way through three of his teammates, two of which ended up taking second and third place for a Triton sweep of the Men's Epee.

CAMRYN BORG, WOMEN'S SOCCER, SO., M
 
UC San Diego sophomore midfielder Camryn Borg was instrumental in the Tritons earning results in two road matches last week. On Thursday at CSU Bakersfield, Borg controlled center midfield as the Tritons rallied for a pair of second half goals to earn a 2-2 draw. On Sunday at CSUN, the transfer scored the game-winner in the 80th minute on a header to propel the Tritons to a 1-0 win. For the season, Borg ranks second on the team with three goals.

DAVIS McDOWELL, MEN'S GOLF, SO.

Sophomore Davis McDowell placed third of 93 golfers at the Visit Stockton Invitational last week at the Stockton Golf & Country Club. He recorded a 54-hole total of 204, nine-under par. McDowell opened the event Thursday with a career-best 65 (-6), followed with a 71 (even par) in Friday's second round, and shot a 68 (-3) Saturday to close it out. Over McDowell's 54 holes, he had 36 pars and 15 birdies. McDowell's 65 was the best single-round by a Triton since the team became an NCAA Division I program in 2020. AVA McINNES, WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL, SO., OH
 
Outside hitter Ava McInnes averaged 5.75 kills per set with 46 kills, hitting .303 on the weekend to lead the Tritons with 48 points. The sophomore collected a career high 31 kills on 85 swings (hitting .282) on Friday night against Long Beach State. She followed that up by leading the team in kills again on Saturday with a match-high 15 kills (hitting .342) in a 3-0 sweep of Cal State Fullerton. Defensively, McInnes also added 14 digs and three blocks for UC San Diego.
 

Talisa Lin

MAX CARVALHO, MEN'S SOCCER, SO., FORWARD

Propelling the Tritons past Cal Poly, UC San Diego's Max Carvalho scored a pair of goals in 18 seconds in the Triton's 4-3 victory. Carvalho shot 100% in his stat line on Saturday night. With two goals already on the board for UC San Diego, Carvalho sent a sliding kick into the back of the net on a cross from Jack Hagan, who received the ball from Mason Haubrich in the middle. As play resumed, Carter Jacobus cleared the ball to Carvalho, who took it down the left side and struck with his right foot to put the Tritons up 4-0 on the Mustangs. Saturday's two goals are a single-game career-high for Carvalho and he has tripled his goals scored this season.

Manuel Augusto

MANUEL AUGUSTO, MEN'S WATER POLO, SR.
 
Over four games on the road last week senior Manuel Augusto totaled 10 points on five goals and five assists. His biggest game came against 16th-ranked WWPA opponent California Baptist, in which he scored three goals and added a pair of assists for a season-high five points to lead the Tritons to a win and stay undefeated in conference play. At No. 3 UCLA, he finished with three points on a goal and two assists and against Austin he registered a goal and an assist. Augusto has tallied at least one point in 16 of 19 matches with multiple points in 10.
 

Talisa Lin

TALISA LIN, WOMEN'S SOCCER, FR., DEFENDER

UC San Diego freshman Talisa Lin helped anchor a back line that surrendered just one goal over 180 minutes on the pitch last week. The right back played all 90 minutes in the Tritons' scoreless draw at UC Santa Barbara Thursday night. On Sunday, Lin and the Tritons earned a 3-1 victory over Hawai'i to pick up their first Big West victory of the season. For the season, Lin has started the last 14 matches after coming off the bench in the opener, and she has played all 90 minutes in 13 consecutive matches.

Natalie Abel

EMILY MCDANIEL, WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL, SO., OPPOSITE
 
Sophomore Emily McDaniel averaged 2.50 kills and 1.00 blocks per set in two five-set road battles for the Tritons, finishing the weekend with 31.0 points. The opposite tallied 25 total kills, hitting .246 and finished with a team-best 10 blocks, including two solo stops. In Thursday's match at UC Riverside, she finished with 14 kills and five blocks to total 16.5 points. On Saturday, she tallied 11 kills and five blocks for 14.5 points.
 

Dominic Peters

ANDREW VALVERDE, MEN'S SOCCER, SO., MIDFIELDER

Sophomore midfielder Andrew Valverde had a breakout performance vs. Sacramento State when he scored two goals for UC San Diego on Saturday night. The UCLA transfer scored his first collegiate goal in the 36th minute to tie it up at 1-1. In the second half, the Hornets were able to tie it up again at 2-2. In the 67th minute, Valverde took a cross from the right side and sent it into the back of the net on his first touch, lifting the Tritons past Sac State with the final result of 3-2. Valverde's Saturday performance allowed UC San Diego to go 1-1 on the opening week of Big West play and advanced the Tritons to 5-4-2 overall.

Natalie Abel

ELLIOT BUNYAVIROCH, GOLF, SR.
 
Elliot Bunyraviroch started his senior season off strong with a career-best fifth-place showing in the 84-player field at the Ram Masters Invitational in Fort Collins, Colorado. He helped lead UC San Diego to a fifth-place finish as well, the team's best placing in a season opener since becoming a Division 1 program. Bunyaviroch finished with a 4-under par 206. He posted rounds of 66, 70, and 70. His first round 66 was a career-best. In that opening round, he produced a hole-in-one on the par-3, 190-yard second hole. Accomplished with an 8-iron, it was the first hole-in-one of his competitive career. His 54 holes were comprised of one ace, 12 birdies, 33 pars, seven bogeys, and a triple bogey. Bunyaviroch compiled a 2.80 stroke average on par-3 holes, the third-best of any player in the field.
 

Dominic Peters

ZARIA HENDERSON, WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL, SO., OH

Outside hitter Zaria Henderson averaged 4.22 points per set and hit at a .247 clip, with 3.67 kills per set, three aces and two blocks on the opening weekend of Big West play. Henderson recorded double-doubles in both matches, averaging 3.67 digs per set. On Friday, she tallied 16 kills and 15 digs in a five-set thriller against UC Santa Barbara. The following night, Henderson put up a match-high 17 kills and a career-high 18 digs against CSUN, hitting .316 in the match.

NATALIE ABEL, WOMEN'S SOCCER, SO., F
 
UC San Diego sophomore forward Natalie Abel has scored in three straight matches for the Tritons, including goals in both matches this week. On Wednesday against San Francisco, the Texas A&M transfer scored in traffic during the 48th minute. In Sunday's Big West opener against UC Irvine, Abel's strike from 10 yards out in the 15th minute helped propel the Tritons to a 1-1 draw against the defending Big West champs.
 

Dominic Peters

DOMINIC PETERS, MEN'S SOCCER, GRAD., GK

Grad student Dominic Peters led the Tritons to a 0-1-1 weekend after holding a clean sheet against crosstown foe, University of San Diego. Against the Toreros, Peters a career and season-high record for a single match with 12 saves. He was four away from the Tritons' single match save record which was set in 1979. In the Tritons' 2-0 loss against Gonzaga, Peters faced 19 shots from the Bulldogs with nine shots on goal, seven of which he saved. Peters played 180 minutes this weekend and is one of three Tritons who played all 180 minutes. He is the current Big West leader in three categories: goals average against (.800), saves (35), and shutouts per game (3).

Running in her first collegiate race, Emma Dunmire was UC San Diego's top performer in a dual meet against UCLA in Mammoth Lakes on September 1. Dunmire finished third overall with a time of 10:00.7 on the 3000-meter course.

CARTER JACOBUS, SO., MF, MEN'S SOCCER

UC San Diego sophomore midfielder converted a penalty kick in the 84th minute to give the Tritons a one-nil victory over UNLV on Sunday night. The score was the first of the season and second career for the Torrance native.

Rhys Bugelli

RHYS BUGELLI, SO., UTIL, MEN'S WATER POLO
 
Over four games during UC San Diego's Triton Invitational, sophomore Rhys Bugelli accumulated 14 points on 10 goals and 4 assists. He netted at least one goal in every game and scored multiple goals in three of four. Against 10th-ranked Pepperdine, he totaled six points on four goals and a pair of assists. Those point and goal totals were both career-bests. In action against No. 8 UC Santa Barbara, Bugelli scored another hat trick to go along with an assist.
 
 

Strand, Izzi

IZZI STRAND, SO., S, WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL

Setter Izzi Strand was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Colonel Classic after she tallied 9.44 assists and 2.89 digs per set to lead UC San Diego to a clean 3-0 sweep of the tournament. With the wins, the Tritons improved to 5-1 on the season—their best start since 2017. Strand recorded her fourth double-double of the season on Friday against the host Nicholls, finishing with 39 assists—one shy of her career high—and 13 digs. She also finished one dig shy of another double-double in the early match against Southern Illinois, tallying 35 assists and nine digs. Strand directed the offense to team hitting percentages of .325, .303 and .434—the latter being the Tritons' best hitting percentage of the Division I era and best since Oct. 15, 2004 against at Cal State L.A. (.442).

NICK CIRRITO, GR., F, MEN'S SOCCER
 
In the 2022 season opener against Pacific, forward Nick Cirrito lifted the Tritons past the Tigers by putting away two goals in the second half of the match. With his two shots on goal finding the back of the net, Cirrito scored a career high most goals in a single game. Cirrito is currently tied with three others for the lead in The Big West for most goals scored.

AVA McINNES, SO., OH, WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL

Sophomore Ava McInnes averaged 4.23 points per set, with 44 kills and seven aces in three matches to lead UC San Diego to a 2-1 finish at the San Diego State Invitational on the opening weekend of competition. The outside hitter averaged a team-best 3.38 kills per set and was second in digs with 2.00 per set, tallying 19 kills in the Tritons first program win over Cal on Saturday, 3-2.
