FULLERTON, Calif. — The UC San Diego track and field team had a strong showing on day one of the Ben Brown Invite hosted by Cal State Fullerton. The Tritons had several top finishers and even broke some stadium records.
On the men's side,
Zeno Castiglioni led the way with a third-place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase, breaking the previous stadium record with a time of 9:21.91.
Andrew Villapudua finished eighth in the 1500-meter run with a time of 3:55.46 while
Marcos Milla placed ninth in the 5000-meter run with a time of 14:38.38, which also earned him a spot on the UC San Diego all-time performances list.
Nicco Pompili finished 10th in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:55.49 and
Jordan Haney placed 12th in the 10000-meter run with a time of 30:49.69.
The women's team also had a successful day, with
Kelsie Yamano leading the way with a second-place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase, breaking the stadium record with a time of 11:28.48. Yamano also earned a spot on the all-time performances list with her impressive finish.
Caitlin Billman also earned a spot on the all-time performances list, finishing eighth in the 10000-meter run with a time of 36:12.03. For the field,
Kate MacNaughton finished 17th overall in the long jump with a distance of 5.04m.
Overall, the UC San Diego track and field team had a strong showing on day one of the Ben Brown Invite with several impressive performances and new records set. The Tritons will look to build on their success in day two of the competition.
