LAST TIME OUTÂ
UC San Diego's appearance at the Washington State Invitational (Feb. 2-4) marks the first time the programs have competed at an indoor event since transitioning to NCAA Division I prior to the spring 2021 season.Â
Â
The team finished the meet off strong with the hurdlers running a personal best and advancing to two out of three rounds.Â
Nolan Crespo finished fifth overall in the 60-meter dash finals after stumbling in the blocks during the first round.
Â
The Tritons set many new indoor records for the program and faced a huge learning curve competing indoors.

OLYMPIC GOLD MEDALIST KIM GRAHAM-MILLER TAKES THE HELM
UC San Diego Director of AthleticsÂ
Earl W. Edwards announced the hiring of former Olympic gold medal-winner Kimberly Graham-Miller as the new head track & field coach of the Tritons on July 11, 2022. She took over UC San Diego's men's and women's programs after serving as an assistant coach at Sacramento State since 2014, working with relay teams and sprints and hurdles.  During her time in Sacramento, she helped coach the Hornets to six Big Sky Conference titles.
 Â
A 1993 graduate of Clemson University, she was a decorated athlete for the Tigers. The team captain was a three-time ACC Performer of the Year – the only woman to capture that honor three times. She was inducted into the Clemson Hall of Fame in 1999.
Â
After graduating from Clemson, Graham-Miller took part in the 1995 Indoor and Outdoor World Championships, where she was a semifinalist in the 400-meter. Competing for the United States in the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, she was a 400-meter semifinalist before capturing a gold medal as part of the 4x400 meter relay team.

After 20 seasons playing as an NCAA Division II team, the entire athletics program is in its third year of a four-year transition to NCAA Division I, culminating in full DI status as a member ofÂ

Â
WHY THE TRITONS?
The Triton is described as the offspring of Poseidon and Amphitrite, a demigod of the sea with a lower part of the body like that of a fish. It is known as a mighty and fierce sea warrior. Given UC San Diego's close proximity to the Pacific Ocean and its connections with the world-famous Scripps Institution of Oceanography, the Triton became our mascot in 1964.
