ST. GEORGE, Utah – UC San Diego began competition at the Mountain Pacific Sport Federation Conference Championships tonight at Utah Tech University. The two Triton squads combined for three new team records and three second-place finishes.

After day one, the Triton women sit in second place with 68 points and the Triton men are in fourth with 60. The meet concludes on Saturday.

ON THE WOMEN'S SIDE
Opening the meet with a photo-finish,
Jordan Phillips,
Katja Pavicevic,
Miranda Renner, and
Tina Reuter, took second place in the 200 yard medley relay. The relay team finished 0.07 behind the Hawai'i team. Posting a time of 1:38.03, the Tritons posted a new team record in the relay.

Another team record came in the 800 yard freestyle relay when
Juli Arzave,
Tina Reuter,
Aneta Wyzga, and
Sophie Francis snapped the old record by nine seconds. The quartet finished in second with a time of 7:13.01.

ON THE MEN'S SIDE
Finishing fifth in the 200 yard medley,
Andrija Petkovic,
Luke Pusateri,
Chad Morrison, and
Justin Morsch posted a time of 1:28.17. Setting a new team record in the 800 freestyle relay,
Ivan Kurakin,
Andrija Petkovic,
Luigi Franco, and
Devin Esser posted a time of 6:29.03 to finish second.

The UC San Diego swim teams continue the MPSF Conference championships Thursday through Saturday. Prelims begin at 10 am MT with finals taking place each night at 6 pm MT. The diving championships will take place in East Los Angeles at 10 am PST on Thursday morning.
