KAPOLEI, Hawai'i — Kyle Dougherty is tied for third and UC San Diego is tied for sixth following the opening round of the Kapolei Invitational Tuesday.
The University of Hawai'i is hosting the 19-team, three-day tournament at Kapolei Golf Club, just over 20 miles northwest of Honolulu on the island of O'ahu.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UC San Diego totaled a season-low 276 in the round, 12-under par on the par-72, 7,001-yard layout.
Dougherty shot a 6-under 66, the second-lowest round of his collegiate career by one stroke. His round consisted of one eagle, five birdies, 11 pars, and one bogey. His eagle came on the par-5 14th hole.
Also counting in the team scoring for the Tritons are
Jerry Wu (-3, tie for 28),
Francis Catalano (-2, tie for 37),
Davis McDowell (-1, tie for 49), and
Justin Gill (tie for 94).
Catalano holed an eagle on the the par-5 17th hole.
Davis Lee is representing the Tritons as an individual and his scores do not count in the team totals. Individually, he is 67th with an even-par 72 today.
Florida Gulf Coast, ranked 53rd nationally, is in front after shooting a 268, 20-under par. No. 23 Baylor is one stroke behind in second and Texas State is third at 17-under.
Individually, Riley Lewis from Loyola Marymount and Jason Tang from UC Irvine are on top of the 114-player field after they each fired a 7-under 65.
