Renner and Djordjevic Represent Team Philippines at FINA World Championships

BUDAPEST, Hungary – UC San Diego rising senior, Miranda Renner heads to Budapest, Hungary with head coach Marko Djordjevic and Team Philippines to compete in the 19th Federation Internationale de Natation (FINA) World Games.

Renner qualified for Worlds after her performance at the 31st Southeast Asian Games. In Hanoi, Vietnam she medaled twice while representing Team Philippines. Renner took bronze in the 100-meter freestyle and silver in the 100-meter medley relay. She then set a national record for the Philippines in the 50-meter butterfly, breaking the three-year record from 2019.

Manila-born, Renner will represent the Philippines in the 100-meter freestyle on Wednesday, June 22, and in the 50-meter butterfly on Thursday, June 23. The competition begins with heats for each event, followed by semifinals, and then finals.

"The opportunity to compete at the Swimming World Championships is simply inspiring. To watch and swim alongside world-class athletes is an immense learning opportunity. I may learn from the best of the best while also relying on the preparation from the UC San Diego coaching staff that has gotten me here today," Renner said. "I am excited to use this as a steppingstone for further accomplishments I would like to achieve, but first and foremost, I am honored to represent the Philippines and ready to have fun!"

Renner is joined by UC San Diego's head swim coach, Marko Djordjevic, who was named the Philippines head swim coach for the World Games due to Renner's appointment to the team.

"I am very excited for Miranda, and for UC San Diego about this opportunity to represent the national team of the Philippines at the world championships. This is an accomplishment that didn't come overnight, and it is a result of her hard work; it is very well deserved," Djordjevic said.

"This is an incredible opportunity to represent UC San Diego at one of the biggest sports stages, and it is great being seen at this event, as well it is very inspiring for all members of our Triton team, and it is an eye-opening moment to continue believing in what the members of UC San Diego swim & dive are capable of accomplishing. I'm very proud of Miranda and I'm thankful for the opportunity to help and collaborate with the Philippines national team," Djordjevic added.

The Federation Internationale de Natation was founded in London, England in 1908 during the Olympic Games. Eight national federations formed FINA: Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, and Sweden.
